At the vets today an older couple were waiting for their cat and started talking about my pup. The lady asked the gent what kind of dog he was and the gent replied that he had a beagles head but he wasnt sure what he was crossed with. He then came over and asked what was he crossed with. I told this guy he was pedigree beagle and wasnt crossed with anything and he went into one saying that his friend owned beagles for years and i had been "had" as there was no way he was a pure breed. At the top of his voice he was saying that he was too leggy and tall, (he is quite tall for a beagle) and whoever i got him off must have big windows as they saw me coming. The whole waiting room was staring. I told the man that he looked leggy as he wasnt full grown and when his chest filled out it would appear lower which would make his legs appear shorter, to which he replied "who told you that cr*p". i was furious as a very experienced beagle owner, shower and breeder had told me this at a beagle rally, (i am definately no expert and wouldnt have dreamed of answering him if i wasnt confident with my facts) I was then called into the surgery to which i was very releived. Where do people get off? Why do some people think they are the orb of all knowledge? I wanted to poke him. Am i in the minority of people who mind their own business? Just needed a moan and to get it off my chest. Ironically my boy has a lovely pedigree with lots of champions and his dad got a first at crufts last year. What a plonker this bloke was!!

I had a few of these such conversations about my BC pup when he was smaller. Apparently collies are black and white and my red merle looks like he is crossed with a husky  not to mention being the wrong colour:rolleyes: I had a couple of people in the vets that looked like they didn't believe me so I just stared at them, made them a little uncomfortabe and they never said any more. It is a bit more obvious that he is a collie now he is older, it was obvious to people that know collies anyway. Really used to p*** me off though.

>>>I wanted to poke him

LOL at Stann.  I would have wanted to batter his brains in with a cricket bat, but hey, each to his own :D :D :D

How rude! I would have told him his friend was the one who had clearly been 'had'! :-)

I can sympathise Stann, when my golden retriever pup was only 12/13 weeks i was walking with him at the beach(he was carried mostly) and an elder lady complete with family came sqealing over to me, the lady asked the breed and i told her, she then went on to tell me i had a lab - they are retrievers you know but you call them yellow!  so as polite as i could muster i told her Spike was in fact a goldie he was a puppy.

She then told me impossible as he had short hair! I explained the hair is to long for a lab and that his hair would grow, and started to walk away and she muttered that i had been had and that he was definatly a cross or a lab and would bever have a long coat!  A year later he is clearly a golden with a lovely long coat and i wish we would meet her again when he is all muddy     LOL
