I cant believe it when we were out yesterday some old bat hit Abby with her walking stick for no reason. I take Abby out cycling everyday, we stick to cycle paths or woods anyway as we were cycling we met an old lady with her small dog so we slowed right down and moved away from them, she was on my left and Abby on my right there was about three feet between me and the woman, Abby didnt move towards her or her dog, didnt growl or do anything she shouldnt have this stupid woman walked towards us and hit Abby across the back with her stick. She is lucky I didnt kill her, I dropped my bike and checked Abby was ok then followed this woman to find out why in the hell she hit her her answer was that Abby was a danger to others and shouldnt be out in public I tried to point out that if you hit a dangerous dog then there would be a good chance it would bite you. So after offering to wrap her stick around her head if she ever touched my dog again and a few choice words that would have made the most hardened of criminals blush from us she threatened to call the police well I laughed.
I spoke to the police and they said that she was in the wrong and if I knew who she was they would prosocute(sp) for animal cruelty.
What annoyed me most is she hit her because of the breed she is.
Rant over

>So after offering to wrap her stick around her head...
LOLOLOL Sorry I couldn' help but have a chuckle at that. :)
You must have been so angry! Some people are just very selfish, and I have to say it, stupid. Is Abby OK now? If I were you next time you see her, put on some spy goggles and follow her home so you can give her address to the police. Even if they only have a word with her, it may stop her doing some major damage to Abby or any other dog.
I had an old bloke do this to one of my dogs once also. He said that it was no wonder the country was in the state it was in with dogs weeing in public!!!
Sometimes people amaze me :d

We seem to be lucky as all the police around here that I have spoken to are dog lovers, the one I spoke to yesterday owns a staffy so she said she knows what its like to own "a devil dog".
I was so angry I think the only reason she didnt get a slap was the fact she was old, I am not a violent person but I am so sick of people having such a negitive attitude towards Abby because she is a Dobie, she isnt aggressive towards people or dogs you have more chance of being licked to death than her biting you.
We have been having lots of comments lately about how well behaved she is and then this happened.
Mary
I can't pretend I know how you feel about people being wary of certain breeds, because the breed we are getting aren't even known by many people, so whether they are good or bad doesn't really come into it! But I can imagine that it is upsetting for you, and to have your dog attacked by a PERSON just because of his breed is dreadful.
I hope Abby is OK. I really do believe that what comes around goes around and this woman will get whats due.
Blimey, lucky it weren't me or I'd have taken her stick and whacked her with it.
Being old is no excuse for being an idiot.
Abby what breed do you have?
How horrible for you.......Having previously shared my life with a dobe for 13 years I can fully appreciate how annoying peoples attitudes towards the breed are - unfortunately there will always be idiots old and young who judge just on the breed that they are not on the dog itself but the fact that she hit your Abby appalls me. If it were me I would be very tempted to try and find out who she was and report her especially as the police you have talked to are dog lovers, this old women sounds like she deserves a good fright and it may remind her that violance is not tolerated no matter what age you are.
Hope Abby is ok.

Blondiflops Abby is a Dobermann.
Thank you everyone for your replies her highness is fine she just wanted to carry on with her walk, we didnt see the woman today when we went out so hopefully we wont have any more problems.
Mary

god! poor abbey poor you :(
i think id have exploded & defintally prosecuted the old bag

in fact id have insisted she call the police,as she offered !
I'd have said that's ok I'll call them myself whipped out my mobile
(hopefully which would have had a signal) and called them there and then infront
of her...
I would even have resorted to taking a 'mug shot' of said person..
That way the old bag couldn't have got out of it that it wasn't her...
Don't you just love those mobile phones with camera!!
Although it's easier said when you are calm and can think of such things.
Wicked old bag.
Hope you'll soon be back enjoying your walks together.
If you happen to meet the old bag again - and she sounds off, make sure you tell
her good and proper that she's the one in the wrong.

Blimey, that's horrendous. I do know what you mean about people having a negative attitude to dobies. People tend to avoid me and Jess (at least I think it's because Jess is a dobe and not that they're avoiding me :-)). Obviously I'd be furious if anything like that happened to Jess (probably end up in prison to be honest!) but on the flip side of the coin, you don't tend to get as many random people coming up and trying to fuss them.
I do hope Abby is ok and not too traumatised by that loathesome old witch.

That's absolutely disgusting - I like the idea of following her home so you can report her to the police! If anyone hit my dogs they would get a major shock, I may look quiet but I'm not really!!!! Thank god she didn't hurt Abby badly, hitting her on the back like that!! :-(

yes good idea, take a pic with your moby & put it all over town, this ole bag hit my dog!!!!on all the lamposts

Oh boy , that sucks. A friends rotti was treated the same way ....
Long story short - a hindi couple (no racism here) were making out and doing adult things blah blah blah , 2 of my goldens and a humongous 190lb rottweiler go up and sniff them, the man got up and kicked the rotti on the side and begun cursing and telling us to control our dogs. We tell the man it is a designated dog area and he shouldn't be here beside a childrens playground unbuttoning this ladys blouse. He again get's physical , i have a very bad/short temper when it comes to these kind of things. I go and shove this man then stomp on his leg , at this point we are basically surrounded by spectators and this hindi man yelling "POLICE POLICE" and calling us stupid jocks (highschool all over again).
All because of the breed , he didn't even take a second glance at my goldens and it would be his own pity if he got physical with my dogs.. people these days , people suck! If i was reincarnated i'd love to be a cat , cats rule!
That's disusting i swear i would have hit her back if she had hit my dog! and i would have called the police for her as someone else already said
Peoples attitudes towards dogs are disgusting and funnily the only dog ive ever been bitten by was a westie and they arent exactly classed as a dangerous dog!!

Sorry to here about Abby :(
To bad you didn't know who she was and pressed charges then maybe that would teach that person a thing or two

Some people
I was out with all my boston's one day and some guy with his kid thought they were lil pits and yelled roudly at me those aren't pits are they, I just kinda laughed and said no... I kinda wished I said yes then see what he said... I like pits my brother has a rescued one from the pound and she's a sweety :)
if that old bag did that to my dog i would have gone mad!!! its good how u managed not to wrap the stick around her head!!! you must be one calm person! hope your dog is ok x

No not usually a calm person Im a bit of a hot head Im afraid(full Irish temper)but I couldnt hit an old person no matter how much I wanted to, my mum would kill me. I didnt even think to use my phone.

Wicked old bag - I don't know about teenagers needing ASBO's, some of the cantankerous old b*ggers can give them a run for their money.

i would have popped her stick up her botty lol. Hope abby is ok and not nervous. Some old people still live in a world of corperal punishment and smacking is unfotunately acceptable and sometimes perfectly normal, feel sorry for her as with that attitude she is probably a billy no mates! Or jelous as abby has her own teeth lol.

Thats awful :( im really glad abby is ok!

Sideways Stann? hee hee
Too true Phoebe, my elderly mother-in-law (God rest her soul) was the mildest, most inoffensive woman you could meet...until she went out in her wheelchair. She insisted on taking both walking sticks with her and used them to prod and whack people in front of her if she felt they weren't sufficiently responsive to her needs (which, not having eyes in the back of their heads, they never were). She would do this regardless of the size, age or demeanour of the person. Of course they would then whip round and confront the hapless chair pusher in the eye. I used to give a pathetic, ingratiating grin and shrug my shoulders ('These old 'uns, eh? What are they like!').
However even she never assaulted a dog; there are some depths to which even a power-mad old bat shouldn't sink and this is surely one of them.
A few years ago I heard of a similar situation. It turned out that the old lady's aggression was due to a form of dementia. . .
Personally I think anyone who hits a dog for no reason is as bad as someone who hits a child - neither deserve it and the only outcome will be fear for both child or animal, something that neither should EVER have to live with.
I would have 'accidentally' tripped the old bat up and then given her stick for my dog to chew up, but then I can be a wicked person when it comes to defending my children or animals :)
