Hi Lolab, The best place to find out about kind reward-based training methods is on the APDT website.  If you go to: http://www.apdt.co.uk/  You can then do a search there for your area and it should bring up a list of trainers who all used reward-based and kind methods.

Thanks for the tip, however I've had a look at the website and unfortunatley they do not cover classes near enough to my area (Dudley) and my puppy gets very car sick if we had to travel to the nearest class!

Have you tired asking at your vets? they usually know of trainers in the local area

Good idea, will do! She is due for her 2nd injection on Monday so will check with the vet then. Many thanks!

Check also with the local library, police or dog warden. When you find one go and watch first without the pup and see what they are like. Not all APDT classes are good. :-(

That's a shame there are none in your area.  I totally agree with the OP here.  Make sure you watch a class before you take your pup.  In fact, if you have a choice of a few, watch them all and then choose which one you'd like to go to.  Try to choose one which uses reward based methods (food, toys) and not just praise.  Avoid classes where puppies are pushed into positions and definitely where they are told off or treated negatively in any way.
