Please help me.

I have a 9 week old pup, and he is doing really well with the house training. A few wees, but he has been really good.

The past few nights I have been coming down in the morning to find a right mess. Poo everywhere, and all over him and crate.

I can't work out why he has started doing this? When I leave him in the day he is fine, its just a night time.

I am feeding him 4 times a day with his last feed at 8pm. Is this to late?? Then he is crated for the night around 10pm.

Please please help.

Many thanks

I would say his last feed is a bit late.  Does he not cry to be let out ? maybe you could set an alarm to get up and let him out in the night :)

At 9 weeks he's a bit young to be expected to go right through the night without being let out at least once between 10 and when you get up in the morning..........  I'd set my alarm for around 2.30 and see if he's pooed by then, if not take him out in the garden, give him a small reward, then retire again.  Keep everything very low key, turn on as few lights as possible, don't play with him etc.

We have a 12 week old puppy, and we got her at 7 weeks. Her last feed was at 8pm, and therefore we waited until between 11:30pm and 12 to put her to bed. Before bed she was taken out. We then got up in the night at 4am to take her to the loo, re-crate her and then we got up for her at 8am. Their bowel and bladder is far too small to be expected to go for so long at such a young age without accidents. I would really clean out the crate with a spray mixture of white vinegar, biological washing powder and warm water, to get rid of any wee and poo smells, clean all the bedding and be prepared for having to go to bed later, getting up earlier and getting up in the night. Now my pup is 12 weeks, we put her to bed at 11:30 and she is dry and clean until 6am when we get up to take her out for toilet, and then we get up for her at 8am. It is going to take time and many more broken nights of sleep before she will be able to go all night through, but she has never toiletted in her crate. Digger is also got it spot on with keeping getting up in the night low key. Keep everything relaxed. It is so sweet as our little one knows that seeing us in the night means toilet time, and she is usually tired, so she will automatically come out, have a little hug from me, goes automatically into the garden, poos and wees, walks back to the house and puts herself to bed. She gets a treat. This seems to have worked for us. I would not have known any of this stuff though if it wasn't for this forum and the previous experience my partner has had with dogs, because she is my firstpup, so everything is a lesson to me!
