My bullmastiff is 10 months old, she has just come out of her first season and is being very different, she is snappy, slow walking, keeps laying down when out for a walk, constantley licking herself as she is swollen. she seems unwell and very sad. i was told this was normal for a bitch who has just come out of season and that it will last for a few weeks.
Is this correct as i do not like seeing her like this?
Thanks
Becky

Hi, no it doesn't sound normal to me i'd take her the vet as soon as possible, she could have an infection of the uterus.  My eight month old bullmastiff had her season a month ago and she weren't like that.  They can develop pyometra which is an infection of the womb there's two types open and closed, closed causes blood poisioning because there's now where for the pus to go, open there should be a foul smelling discharge, both are life threatening so it's best to be safe than sorry or she could have vaginitis where there vulva swells up and they lick it constantly and have a discharge, either way she needs to see a vet and i'd go straight away, I dont mean to worry you but you really do need to get it checked out asasp for your dogs welfare.  Good luck

Warm regards Susan
