Hello,
Just wondering if I should reduce my Rottie's meals from 3 times a day to twice a day. She is 6 months old and weighs 22kg. She has 140g of purina pro plan 3 times a day.
We are in the transision of changing her food from Purina to Tesco complete, she will require 520g per day of this untill she reaches 25kg. We also feed her titbits of liver sausage, choc drops and winalot shapes biscuits as treats for training exercises. She also has rawhide bones etc.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Dont know if it matters but she pooh's normally 3 times a day - first thing in the morning, tea time and last thing at night - reasonably ok but not the best since changing food - but getting better!!!!!
Thanks
Sarah

yes i would cut her down to 2 meals now
Hi there, make sure when you change foods you do it gradually over a 2 week period otherwise you you will see loose poos!
Sorry, just thought I'd add that you will probably find yourself feeding more of the cheaper food than you would have on a better quality food. Arden Grange is one I love and you will find that it works out less than feeding a cheaper food and you have less poo to! Chaeaper foods usually contain cereals and grains which can make a dog pass more poos. Kind regards Clare
Thanks for the info - yes we are doing over a 2 weelk period we have done it for a week so far and she is now on half and half, i think by the middle of this week we will change her to 3 quarters of tesco and a quarter of purina. does this sound ok?

I think I changed my Tibetan Mastiff puppy over from 3 meals to 2 at 6 months. He started leaving a lot of his middle meal, so it seemed the right time. But I wouldn't wait for your girl to do that - Rotties can be greedy!
The only other thing I'd say is make sure she's not too fat or you're storing up joint problems for the future. Sometimes the food directions are not that accurate. If I'd ever fed my shar-pei or TM puppy ther recommended amount of food, they'd be like a pair of beached whales. All dogs are different and some would probably eat twice the amount and be the right weight. She's probably perfect if you can feel her ribs easily with your hands, but can't see them.

I would be interested to know the reason you are changing to Tesco complete. How did you choose this food?
Hi jackyjat,
I am changing to tesco complete because unfortunately purina pro plan is £9.00 per 3kg and Tesco complete is £5.50 for £6kg!! Unfortunately as she is eating more and more we can not keep feeding her on the more expensive food and eat gruel ourselves!!!!
One of our friend Rottie's eat Asda'a own and they are perferct weight, great coat and no problems on it so we thought we would try the tesco one as we shop there!
Sarah
Thanks Phoebe - yes she is still quite lean but filling put proportinally!! not to skinny and not to fat!
She isnt particuarlly greedy either you can put hre meal down and she wont eat it all at once just eats when she wants it - could be straight away or she might have it over a coule of hours!!

Hi Sarah,
Did you not take into account how much your dog would be to feed before you got him? :) I hope the cheap food suits him.
Hi Hailey
We didnt know how much the food would cost before we got her. She came with some food in a puppy pack and when that ran out we obviously realised how much it was. She is fine on the tesco food she eats that first rather than the purina food also doesnt seem to affected her poo's to much. We did try her on another type before the tesco one, one that was reccomended by the trainer at puppy classas well but she didnt like that she left most of it and also had a very upset tum. Obviously if the food didnt agree with her or she didnt like it we would keep her on the Purina regardless of the expense, but I feel that you have to try these things and in this instance she is happy and so are our pockets! More money to spend on treats for her instead!

Do you have rotties ? All dogs can be greedy , what gives the justification for this statement .

I presume you're talking to me? I've known quite a few rotties over the years. I worked in a kennels of somebody who bred rotts plus I did many years working in a boarding kennel. Yes, any dogs can be greedy, but I've known a fair few rotties that are. Plus a few who's owners think that their rotties look more 'imposing' when the poor thing is rolling in fat and not exercised enough, but that's not the dogs fault. Sorry if I've offended you as your post sounds rather indingnant, but that's my experience.
