Does anyone know if you are likely to be able to have an affix which was once an affix but isn't any longer?  (If that makes sense)!
Thanks
Alex

I take it you mean an affix which the original owner no longer uses? No idea I'm afraid but it seems unlikely - perhaps if the original owner granted permission? Just babbling really, sorry! :-D

I stand to be corrected, but I believe if an affix (i.e. payment for its upkeep) has lapsed, and hasn't been protected in some way (sometimes done by breed clubs for historical affixes) it can be used again.

I don't know if there is a time limit on it?  The Gazette often shows affixes as 'reinstated', so I assume there must be a different process to just applying for it again.

This is what we all pay our maintenance fees for ... we hope

M. decided to go and look at KC website - quote "When a Kennel Name/Affix has been lapsed, the word will no longer be protected and may be available for the naming of individual dogs. The word may also become available to new applicants. It cannot be used by the original holder until an application has been received and accepted to re-instate the Kennel Name/Affix. The application form must be completed and sent with the appropriate fee of £70 in order that the Kennel Name/Affix can be re-instated. Please note the Kennel Name/Affix will need to be rechecked before it can be re-instated."

Thank you, that's really useful.  I should have thought to look on the KC website!
Best wishes

I think that there's a 10 year time limit on it!

When I was with my husband we had a joint affix. I left him and he took on the affix in his name. A few years later I asked him if I could have it as he had no intention of breeding, and I did. He refused. ( Not surprised at this ;) ) So I phoned the Kennel Club. He hadn't paid the renewal fee for  the last 2 years and I was told that if he didn't pay it during the next 12 months I could re-apply for it and their wouldn't be a problem unless someone complained. Just like applying for a new affix. Unfortunately he paid it once he knew I was after it. ;( 5 years later he decided I could have it and filled in the form transfering it to me, only to find that as he hadn't paid for the previous 3 years (silly man ;) ) we didn't have to fill in that form. I reapplied as if it was a new affix and was, thankfully, allowed it :D So I think I can assume that you would only have to wait 3 years :D
