I have an NVQ Level 2 in Dog Grooming. I am unsure whether to continue onto level 3, as I have paid for private lessons and run my own business. The college I trained at does not have a brillant reputation and views the training parlour as a business as oppose to a school. I have heard that all groomers will have to be registered by the local council and that to have a full qualification will be a must have for the future. Is this true? Or has my tutor told me this as a scare tactic?

Yolanda, we heard that in 1992!! As far as I am aware, nothing has changed.

I'll PM you! :)
Hi Val,
I would also be interested in knowing whether it is that crucial to having the C&G qualification as I am just starting out, do many clients ask if you have passed or do you think experience is more important? TIA

Unfortunately anyone can go out, buy a pair of clippers and put an advert in the local paper as a groomer!! Many do, but they don't stay in business long!!
In 16 years, not one client ever asked me if I was trained or had any qualification BUT I trained and worked at a Grooming School before I started my own business and I would never encourage anyone to start grooming without training.
But I'm sorry to say, in my opinion of course, that I have never heard of a general college that does a grooming course, provide what I would consider a reasonable standard of training, which is great pity, but would be pleased to hear different! :(
would that be Wisbech Yolanda ?
I do love the course and the tutors are very god but sometimes I feel that the lack of proper facilities and now tutors causes unnecessary problems. Do I want to pay another £400 quid or should I get more private lessons? Any more advice? Maybe I should stick with it as it is only another year?
