sadly guest this is very common nowadays.
In my local paper this weekend there were 3 adverts for F1 labradoodle puppies (crossbreed between Labrador and standard poodle) and the prices ranged from £550 to £750!! The prices of purebred registered labradors is around £350 so how on earth these breeders can justify charging double the price for the crossbreeds is amazing! one advert even said that the pups were Kc registered??? It may have been a misprint meaning the parents were KC reg but someone out there will probably be mislead into thinking this is a new breed. I dont have a problem with labradoodles before anyone asks but I do think its a bit cheeky to charge more than the parent breeds put together for a puppy!!!
There are also 2 adverts for "wolf look a like" pups, in one the pups are £600.
I suppose as long as people are silly enough to pay money for these dogs then the breeders will carry on breeding them and charging a fortune. We paid £350 for one of our old tyme bulldogs which I thought was very reasonable considering the prices of British Bulldogs, but I wouldnt have paid any more than this, I think £300 - 350 is enough to pay for any breed of dog!
what does everyone else think about this?

Or it is the now seemingly common scam of having the pups reg'd on the activities register....

When I met a Labradoodle breeder at Strensham services after Crufts last year, I was told that they are in the process of being assessed as a new breed and that by this year it would all be sorted out and they'd have new breed status  I have to say they were the most awful looking dogs   she had two F1 dogs and two F2 dogs and a F3 pup, not one of them bore any resemblance to any of the others except that they were all black (ish) Their coats were all different (and not a nice coat amongst them :( ) and their construction was extremely variable, and yes she was full of how much they were worth as breeders (I let her think I'd been at Crufts looking for a dog, not with my dog ;) )  She was very convincing and if I hadn't been any wiser I might have been taken in  - not !  they were awful!!

I saw a link on another site to a "breeder" abroad who breeds a variety of these dogs, including "spanadors" (lab x cocker spaniel) and "groodles" (golden retriever x poodle) it seems if you breed 2 pedigree dogs and give them a silly name people will queue up to buy them.
I have heard that if you breed labradoodles together you can actually get dogs that look very much like the labrador, some that are more like the poodle and all sorts in between, I think you would have to breed them for a very long time to get them looking alike, and what a lot of "litter wasteage" you would get in the process!

The five I saw bore absolutely no resemblance to either poodles or labradors  their coats were allsorts and so was their construction.  Remember, for this to be a potential created breed, there must be a clear idea of what construction and coat the dog is desired to have, along with size and temperament etc.  It takes a great deal of skill and knowledge to determine which puppies will be able to contribute to the formation of the breed.  A breeder must also be aware that tho a pup isn't necessarily what is being bred for it may still carry the right genes ;)   There doesn't seem at be any of this going on, they seem to be just breeding any dog and bitch without a clear idea of what they are doing, apart from the clear idea that they will make money from a couple of dodgy pedigree dogs and their mongrel pups with silly names :(
