Sorry Guest I think it un-likley that you will get the research done in time, why not start now with a view to mating next time around. Jackie H

Please excuse my ignorance but is there such a thing as an American Bulldog? I thought it was a loose term for a Pit Bull.

Hi WL, I think there is in the USA, and one of the troubles with Guests posts unless they say you don't know where they are posting from. Must admit I assumed they were from the USA. Could be wrong often am. Think I may adopt that as my sign of line, like "Take the rough with the smooth" Jackie H

Could be wrong often am. emmmmmmm. not sure I like it.

They have a .co.uk email address Jackie. They are very likely in the UK ;-)

Yes there is such a breed as the american bulldog it is only recognised by the American Kennel Club (AKC) at the moment however the numbers in Britain are an the increase.

The Pit bull is a different breed completely although you could be forgiven for thinking that as they are alike.

it was an american bulldog in the new version of homeward bound,---theres a lot in the uk already, they look more like a heavyweight undocked boxer than a pitbull--- anna are you sure you're not getting confused with the american stafford???

we have 2 american bulldogs on our books, I still think they are a replacement for pit bulls though as they seem to attract the same type of owners !! the 2 dogs we have are totally untrained, out of control but nice natured (at the moment!) both these people have decided that their dogs are rare in the uk and are going to breed them ! one of the people paid £900 for basically a boxer cross !! and this is the only reason they are going to breed. I had to bite my lip so hard !!! listening to them in the waiting room and expecting me to be impressed ! i think they were conned personally !! no kc papers as the breed is not recognised, do they have a breed standard ? I doubt very much that these unscrupulus people will bother having health checks done (even though I advised hips/hearts) shame really could be nice pets in the RIGHT hands !!

im not sure for how many generations theyve been PURE now , but i think its the same with MOST if not all new breeds coming into the uk, that theyre not registered with the kennel club until they see fit, also that the prices can be very high, im not sure wether this breed will ever get kc recognision -its sad as you say that a lot of these bull type breeds are attracting the wrong sort of person and i did once come upon a site full of american bulldogs that where trained in manwork, usa i think it was,- as you said probably lovley dogs in the right hands.

No you may have misunderstood me! I know what they are and exactly what they look like! I was just saying that someone who doesnt may get confused, I have heard them called pit bulls before! There are two strains of the American Bulldog there is the Johnson and I'm sorry i cant remember the other, but the Johnson strain is a taller version than the other.

The person who posted the message would have to look at the strain they have if they are looking for a suitable stud.

Puppies in this breed do attract some of the wrong type of people as they are using them as a status symbol like a pit bull. I have also heard of many crosses with the American Bulldog and Bullmastiffs to breed a bigger more fierce looking dog. These puppies fetch a very high price on the market much like the dogue.

if you put american bulldogs uk in google search it will bring you a few uk ones up-the pups in one kennel where going for £1000 each, and in 1 litter someone had 13 pups, you can sort of see an attraction :D !!!!
