Hi,
Is it normal for dogs to chase their tails? Our Daisy has started to chase hers-she seems to like it -sends her on a mad 5 mins running through the house!

Just wondered if anyone elses dogs do it?

My two dont, but I remember as a kid, both my mums dogs did. one was a collie cross springer and the other was a bearded collie.
Never have worked out why they did it lol

Itchy bottom, anal glands, flea bit her bum, hair hanging out of her bum - the list is endless but it may be worth checking her glands, when she was last wormed or even if she has picked up a few fleas.

Failing that, could just be that she has only just noticed it and is wondering what the heck it is :)  Our old springer used to do it - barking like a loon at the same time, once he caught it (it was docked) and was satisfied that it was attahced to him and should be there he left it alone.........well, until the next time he suddenly realised that a liver and white thing kept following him around and then he would be off again :D

My juvenile does, but then I have the certificate to say that she is 100% pure mad :D :D

No health problems for her, I'm sure. But when she has exhausted everyone elses patience and attention span, she turns to the good old apendage to make a dull day..........well,  good :P

From her point of view, its very hairy, long, wide, black and has no nerve endings in it at all (we tread on it and she shuts it in the door frequently, to no ill effect) and every time she turns around, it moves even faster in the same direction, so she just has to "beat the tail" and try to catch it before it "outwits" her..............7 times out of 10 she wins, so it's a challenge for her............. :D

Our kai torments his tail, it starts off with him trying to give it a clean and then the tail will move ( doesnt realise he was the one that moved it lol ) and off he goes round and round, he even lays on his back to try and catch it. then follows a mad dash around the garden trying to out run it, when he realises its still there he trys catching it again , mad or what :D :D

Jet did, as a puppy.  I think she had just discovered she had a tail.  I wish she still did, it was so entertaining.  Chase her tail I mean, she still HAS a tail.

One of our cats chases her tail, catches it with her hooks or her teeth and hurts herself, and lets out a wail.  Silly kitty.
