Hi all, i have just registered here but i do read the posts, i had to register when i read the posts about rimadyl, as i was looking it up as i have just been given it for my gsd, she is pregnant and will be about 3 1/2 wks gone, if she was caught. she has been a bit lame on her back leg, not putting her paw on the floor properly, i think it is a pulled muscle or something, she is otherwise fine in her self, but after reading these posts i am wondering if any of you have been prescribed this tablet for pregnant dogs. thanks
p.s. the vet was told she may be pregnant, she did a quick feel and said there either may not be a pregnancy or only carrying 1 or 2 pups.

Never used it on a pregnant dog but have used it on 3 others and it was fantastic.

rimadyl although very good does have side effects so I personally would be wary of using it on a poss: pregnant bitch .

This is from the Rimadyl Insert: "The safe use of Rimadyl in animals less than 6 weeks of age, in pregnant dogs, dogs used for breeding purposes, or in lactating bitches has not been established."

I would be VERY careful if I were you. My dog had an adverse reaction to it that the vet didn't warn me about and as a consequence my dog died a very nasty death. Pfizer, the makers of Rimadyl, have registered the reaction with the VMD and I am suing the vet for negligence. At the very least, an owner should be warned if a drug that can kill is being administered, and be told what to watch for if there is a possibility of a reaction.

Here are a couple of TV news reports from the USA that you should watch. Once you've watched them, I don't think you will want to take the risk.

You don't say how old your dog is, but since it is pregnant, I'm guessing it is still a young dog and so it's unlikely that it is suffering from arthritis, which is what Rimadyl is for. There are safe alternatives to this drug.

I think Rimadyl is a anti inflamatory drug as we were given it for a poorly puppy who had pneumonia and also for a dog with a cruitiate ligement injury.

I have used it with excellent results on 5 of my dogs but I do know there is a lot of controversy over this drug.  Personally I wouldnt use any drugs on a pregnant bitch unless it was absolutely neccessary.
