Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / I'd like to breed my Springer..??
- By guest [us] Date 28.06.02 05:10 UTC
My dog just turned 11. He's got lines from Saighton's kennels, including Saighton's Scud. He is healthy, has not had problems with hips, shoulders or eyes, and although I began the process of getting his hips certified I stopped when I realized how expensive it all is. Is it too late to breed him? If I can't breed him how could I track the line he came from to try and get a pup from them - he's been an incredible dog all around and I really would like a 'chip off the old block.' Thanks much, I am not a pro breeder and hope my question isn't stupid!

You are right Guest, although a dog of 11years can father a litter it is too old to try it for the first time. It also takes 2 to make the final pup and it may well be more like it's Mom and nothing at all like your dog. If you have your dogs pedigree it should be possable to locate a dog with a similar background but in 11yrs the breeders dogs may well have changed quite a lot. Why not join Champdogs and then you can let us all know what his breed is and what his pedigree is and may be someone will know of a dog still having some of the same lines. Jackie H

Guest, I think your best bet is to contact the breed club :-)

The Saighton kennels appear to be well know 'working' affix, so have a word with:

The English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association.

They should be able to point you in the right direction.

Good Luck!
