What are the BEST and mst effective methods for the basic command training (stay,come,leave) of a Border Collie.? My BC (Duke) is 9/10 weeks old, very alert and affectionate as you'd expect.
I know making a fuss of the good things he achieve's is a much, but would like a few "directions" as to which routes of training that are effective.

The best sort of training for any dog is reward-based. BCs are quite clever and are motivated to work harder and be challenged, in which case clicker training is also very good (allows for problem-solving).

Don't know which area you are in but find a good training class. If you can find one which has a puppy class all the better. The best reward your puppy can get is your voice. Small treats are useful. When my two bcs were pups I had a special toy at training which they were allowed to have when they'd finished each exercise to break up the class with some fun. Let us know what area you are in and someone on here would be able to recommend a club/class

I'm in Reading, Berkshire... I have found he responds well to treat based rewards, as I'm sure he's still getting used to our voices.. As we've only had him a short while.

you are so lucky with a collie,cos they are so interseted & want to do it.
personally i "teach" the exercise with a sweetie (bit of yummy sausage or cheese) then when its learnt i generally reward with a toy.
i have a special toy that is rward for training only.
however usually they dont need much incentive just want to please.

the thing with BCs is,as quickly as they will learn good things....they will also learn bad!
