Topic Other Boards / Foo / Wireless network problem
- By LJS Date 15.09.05 13:15 UTC
I have been having problems over the last few week and have got an intruder from an unknown wireless network somebody near me has set up.

I know the name IP addy and the channel they are on. Bar going round knocking on all my neighbours doors  can I send a message through to them via my network in anyway telling them to change channels as this seems to be the problem or is it ?? :D

Thanks

Hi Lucy,

I can't help with the wireless thing, we have never had a problem with ours, but our house phone (digital cordless) often picks up signals from other phones in the area, and you can hear other people talking quite clearly!!

Can you not change what channel yours is on?

No the channel we are on is set and has to stay as it is. They can change without any problems to them so I have been reliably informed :D

I don't know how you do it, (I will ask hubbie if he knows when he comes home, but he is on a late and so probably won't be able to tell you till tomorrow, by which point some one may have already helped!) but, I think you can send a sort of PM to an ISP number.

Try the forum for Windows, I can't remember the address, but it will easily come up on a seach, they really helped when we had hard drive trouble last month, I know it is a Windows forum, but they all know pretty much everything about computers!

I will get back to you if hubbie knows how to do it :D

Can you not put a lock on your wireless so only computers with given access can use your wireless!

It is the channel I think is the problem and anybody can select what channel they are on. It is one number next to ours which is the problem. Nobody can access our network and we have already secured it :)

I was just going to say that Rox, we use wannados wireless, so we have the live box (plugged into the phone line and mains) and an adapter that plugs into the USB port which is the equivalent of a network card. On the live box there is a whopping great long number that ensures only our adapter can pick up the signal. They are matched together on install.

Lucy, have you tried re-installing the software incase they haven't been matched together? Or are you sure it is someone elses signal interfering with it, and not a fault with your piece of kit?

Doesn't you router have some sort of encryption you can enable for the wireless connection ?
