I am going to look at a yorkshire terrier on friday. I intend to use a crate in the utility room for a quiet chill out area. would you buy the metal or plastic tray sort?
do any of you use the puppy pads in the crate at night?

Metal!!!!!!
i had a plastic tray one when Gemma was younger.. the plastic tray didnt last that long as it split.
I Now have a metal tray one that my rabbit lives in. And it is far superior and will last a lot longer than my old one.
Also get the ones that are not coated. I have a smaller crate for when my rabbit needs to go to my parents, but it will look tatty very quickly as the coating is going to come of easily.

I cant do the metal ones, sounds like something with pit boots on once the dogs are in it.   :p

bowers.... we have a metal tray one , what i have done to stop the "pit boot" noise as you put it LOL is to put a blanket folded up underneath the tray but on top of the crate floor. no more noise :D

The smallest metal crate you can get should be ideal, My yorkshire terrier uses her's all the time, it's her special place she feels safe in. Never put training pads in the sleeping area.
