Hi everyone,
I have an EBT bitch and lately she has been growling over her food. When we feed her we always put it in her cage and have done from the day we got her, but over the last week or so she just growls over her food, she doesnt always eat it straightaway. We always put it into her cage and leave her to it and go in the living room, but we can hear her out in the kitchen growling as if she is protecting her food, but from who?
Is there anything we can do to stop this? Or does anyone know the reason why she is doing this? Apart from that she is a lovely dog, a bit hyperactive at times but lovely!
Cheers

My oldest dog can be a bit defensive of her food now she's getting on a bit - I suspect she occasionally feels a bit stiff and gets vocal because she knows she can't move quickly enough to defend it if push came to shove......
I assume there's no other dog or cat in the room with her?
EBT's can be prone to epilepsy and some of them do shown strange behaviour patterns, such as attacking feet - maybe this is linked? I'd certainly get a vet to check over any animal that started to behave differently like this with no reason.

Sorry to hear about your other dog. Had he been ill for sometime? She may have been unsettled by that....

Hi,
Yes it was ill for a while before but we didnt know at first. She didnt like him towards the end either and they had to be seperated so whether she knew he wasnt well?
Like i say apart from that she is a lovely dog but i just dont want one who will be aggressive in the future.
Thanks

its probably due to your other dog being pts.
when we had our girl pts my border collie acted very strange it only lasted a few weeks though.their way of greiving i suppose.

I wonder if a DAP defuser would help settle her down, it's often used with success with grieving dogs...... You should be able to get one from your vet ;)
