..Jess being spayed on Friday. She's only just one and she's had one season, and I know I'm doing the right thing, but I can't help being worried about her! Please put my mind at rest :-)
Thanks, Paranoid Dobe Mum!

We had our GSD spayed at a similar age 9 years ago, she(like most GSDs played on the poorly me for all it's worth ;) for a while)is fine & when she realised she wasn't going to get mollycoddled she was up & playing with the BC's a few days later. Now getting the stitches out was fun as she only wanted to snog the vet & nurse
No pyro, no breast cancer, no unwanted puppies(all my other dogs are males)& a peaceful stress free house hold
If you don't intend to breed then spaying bitches is the best thing for their health's sake

I know it's the right thing to do, but I'm just worried about things going wrong...I know these operations are done hundreds of times a day, but I guess I'm just panicky about my ickle pup!! I'll no doubt be posting on here all day on Friday to try and keep my mind off it :-)

Of course you'll be worried about her - it's a sign that you care! I had a bitch spayed at the same age and she lived to be 15! I'm sure she'll be fine, and by Sunday you'll be wondering how to stop her galloping round the house like a mad thing!

I've got all weekend to look after her and she's going to her Grandparent's house on Monday to be pampered, so I'm sure she'll be back to her normal looney self sooner than I think - not sure if that's a good or a bad thing ;-)

Don't wish to worry you, but has she been checked for von Willebrands Disease (vWD)? Before spaying I would check for this because if she is affected she may bleed a lot - but I'm sure your vet will be able to advise you.

I'm not entirely sure if she has or not. I will mention to the Vet's though. I'm sure she was vaccinated against something that rotties and dobes are prone to, but not sure if it was vWD. Will definately mention to the Vet though, and thanks for pointing it.
Y'see, this is why I love this website - i'd never have know to ask otherwise - thanks again :-)

von Willebrands Disease is a blood clotting disorder and is genetic, it can't be vaccinated against. If the parents of your dog were DNA tested it would appear on her KC papers - it may be worth having a look.

Won't be that she was vaccinated against then:-))
will speak to the Vet about this as soon as poss. Thanks again. Josie and Jess

pedlee, I would hope that she is gentically clear from vWD. Also do breeders not have pups VWD tested before going to their news homes if a paerent was a carrier? I don't know how the dobe people are coping with it, not being in the breed but I am in a breed where there is vWD so have had to do my research on it :)

Unfortunately not all breeders are that responsible. I recently had a litter (both parents were clear) and not one of the people that purchased my pups asked about health tests. I think "Joe Public" are unaware of many of the health disorders relating to specific breeds unfortunately.

Just wondered how Jess is getting on - any news yet?
It's because you love her so much that you worry. I cried when I left my meggy at the vets for her spay and cried again when I picked her up.
What you have to remember as moonmaiden says so well. A days worry now is better than alot more worry later on with infections, cancer etc.
Just realised what day it is. Any news yet? Won't be long before you have her home curled up with you. Bear in mind she could be out of it for a few days. Mine just lay in her bed for most of two days afterwards. I remember that as she couldn't go up the stairs for a while, I slept on the sofa for a few days. Talk about clingy (me not the dog!)
