Hi everyone,
Has anyone used/heard of puppy vaccinations that are all done at 8weeks old?
Did you have any problems with your vet ie. because it wasn't the 'regular' time scale for vacs, and because it was a different product to what they would normally use.
Someone mentioned these vacs last night and I wondered what the general opinion was - good or not?
Thanks,
Sally.

Hi Sally,
What do you mean by all done at 8 weeks? i know of the nobivac vaccination that can be done from 61/2 weeks, but the final one at 10 weeks - but i dont think this is what you're asking about is it?

At a class last night, the trainer said she was going to get her pup done asap when she got it.
I thought she said 8 weeks but I could be wrong.
She said it was possible to have them vaccinated in one go, early on, but vets generally weren't keen.
It's possible I've got the wrong end of the stick!
Any ideas?
Sally

oooh, no idea about that - just know about the 10 week one which is considered pretty radical even! i guess if you heard it at training then at least one of the vets might do it in your local area? i know 3 vets within a mile radius around me who all vaccinate at different ages... Maybe worth ringing round them to find out?

I was asking my vet about vaccinations for my puppy when I finally get her. Their practice generally uses the 9 and 12 weeks one, but a "mobile" vet covering the area uses the 8 and 10 weeks version. It didn't take any persuading for him to say he'd check to see if they had any in the practice and if not, he'd order it for me. I hate to think what he'll charge me for it, though!:D

I will ask the vet anyway, but presumably there are no 'side effects' from having it done that bit earlier?
Have you done a puppy at this age before?
Sally.

Our vet uses an 8 and 10 week set of jabs as her main vaccinations but if you ask she has vaccines that can be given at 6 and 8 weeks. The 6 and 8 week vaccines are a lot more expensive though but I've used them on 2 pups who I wanted to take away with me for a short break.

Hi I have all my puppies vaccinated at 8 and 10 weeks with no apparent side effects and the advantge of being able to start puppy classes that little bit sooner than if I had to wait till 12 weeks for last injection.Gillain

Both my Border Collies were done by the 8 and 10 week method, and absolutely no side effects. It made it a lot easier to start taking the pups out and about to learn to socialise with people early in life.

Now my problem is that they can be a bit TOO sociable.................!

According to my vet the nobivac vaccine can be done as early as 6 weeks (solo done at 61/2), and second at 10 and these work in a different way to normal vaccines and do not interfere with mums protection... You can have temporary injection for distemper and parvo at 6/8 weeks, but still need normal course. No side effects from using the nobivac vaccine - exactle the same as the others (though obviously there are exceptions with everything) but gets them out 2 weeks earlier, which can only be a good thing...!

Hi, Personally I wouldn't vaccinate before 8 weeks unless there was Parvo in the area when the puppy can have a Parvo only at 6 weeks and then "main vaccs" at 8 and 12 weeks. If I am keeping a puppy for myself I wait another two weeks and have them done at 10 and 12 weeks, as I like them to be a little older and stronger, and they are still ready to go out into the world at 13 weeks. But we have no neighbouring dogs and my own dogs are exersised on private land away from other dogs so they are at very low risk.

Hi,

my breeder told me about the vaccinations you can have done at 8 and 10 weeks, but I couldn't find any vet in my area to do it. My vet convinced me to have them at 8 and 12 weeks for my pup explaining that the mothers immunity was still in the pup until this age and might possibly break down the vaccination if given earlier. However, it seems the vaccination that is given at 8 and 10 weeks is a different type (as someone mentioned earlier) and my vet probably just wanted me to have my pup vaccinated with him and wouldn't/couldn't get the other type of vaccine. It was a real pain for me since my puppy was 10kgs at 10 weeks and carrying her everywhere was back breaking!

Best wishes

Fiona and Saffy

Hello,
I know what you mean. My puppy is 12 weeks now and weighs over 1 stone. Thank goodness she can go on a lead at last. It's a real pain when they are too heavy to carry far, I was vertually house bound for the last couple of weeks.
