hi all

its only 5 weeks to my 21st 16th of october and i have nothing organised

i want a party but dad does not talk to my aunt (long story) so he does not want me to have a party because my nan will be saying oh invite 'L' and we dont want to

so i need ideas

plus if i can get round him to leave me have one what do i need to do

At the end of the day your Dad has got to bite the bullet and put up with your Aunt if you want a party :)
He doesn't have to speak to her and if he does surely he can just be polite for one night ? ;)

Hi,  Why not make it more of a 'day' party as opposed to an evening one, invite a few friends and visit your favourite place - for me it's Alton Towers every year!  Then I usually finish off with some friends round for a huge p-up!!  But then I'm getting old - my 21st was a long time ago - my ideas may well not be suited to a youngster like you!!

The only thing I find with parties is that people tend to invite loads of people, hire a large room, and only 50% of the people turn up (usually tends to be the case) and the person involved ends up feeling fed up because so many people have let them down - not that this would necessarily happen to you, but I've worked behind several bars and have seen it all too often :(

At least if you just invite your very closest pals you know you can rely on them!

Hi families are difficult at special occassion times, we always seem to offend someone through no fault of our own.
I would go for a nice meal with family and a couple of close friends, then organise a party for all your other pals
or another thought is just have a open house do a buffet then people can stay as long as they wish.
It is your special birthday so i think your dad may be able to put up with aunty L

Well it is your party and so it really is up to you if you want to invite your aunt do so. You are well aware of the ramifications.

Personally I would have a few friends of my own age and go do something really fun and preferably memorable, wether it is tea at the Ritz or a day learning to pothole. What ever floats your boat :D Of course if it was me it would have to finish off with good food and plenty of booze.....

i dont want to invite her and my uncle her brother agrees with me but just have to get around my dad

i think i will just have family and friends and neighbours (minus L and Family) at my house because knowing my luck no one will turn up not inviting many only 100

plus got a dog show the actual day of my birthday my debut in the ring so got to keep a clear head i will bring a bottle of champaign with me lol

18's the official age of majority - it was lowered from 21 in 1970. People still celebrate more at 21, though - old habits die hard! Besides, many people are at school on their 18th, so it seems just weird!

I was heavily pregnant on my 21st( a few yrs ago now,) son born 5 days later,2 days after xmas lol.....
I couldnt even celebrate properly :-(

:D I didn't have an 18th (too busy saving for our wedding) but last year we went skiing/snowboarding in Italy for my 21st, that was fab...

I think going on holiday with friends is the best way to spend an important birthday, it lasts the whole time your there! :D

I would guess at the age of 21 fashion is high on her list of priorities, why not get her a voucher for a trendy clothes store?

If she doesn't already go... what about a voucher for a funky hair cut at somewhere like Toni&Guys or Vidals, it's a different experience to going to your corner place and makes for a fun pressie that she can enjoy after :)

I think buying clothing or accessories is hard for someone my age because we have so many different tastes, so a voucher for a funky clothing store would be good - ultimately, cash in a card is always great... spend it on what you want then cant you :)

I don't know how close you are to her, but one of my nicest, most memorable gifts was an original piece of abstract art - I was given that for my 18th and it means the world to me. It was done by a local artist who didn't charge the earth and it's really different and funky :)

I'm sure her mum will be able to give you some ideas... what about concert tickets (could be expensive depending on who) but if someone she likes is playing sometime soon, im sure that would make for a good evening :)

One other thing I can think of... we were given a gift voucher for a professional photo shoot at a place called Venture http://www.thisisventure.co.uk/ , I think they have studios up and down the country... gift vouchers are £25 and that includes the shoot and a 'desk size' photo after - of course, you can upgrade the size but it can be expensive...

The £25 voucher experience would be good for her and some mates, it's all funky and modern and relaxed, take food, objects, clothes, friends and have fun etc...
