It's happened again! Somebody both judged and exhibited at Richmond. It's only the likes of me that try to show by the rules and some of the 'big people' break any rule they don't like. Well the judge for the puppy stakes won both CCs in his own breed. It's not allowed but the 'special people' get away with murder, and I'm sick of it.

Rant over.......for now!!!!!

?????

Doesn't the scheduled judge,Howard Ogden, have Griffons . So if he didn't judge & an emergency judge took his place the judging & exhibiting rule doesn't apply
- By thomas-the-spot [gb] Date 09.09.05 19:47 UTC
I can see your point but if it was a sub judge then I suppose it would have been more ethical to withdraw.
- By Dawn-R Date 09.09.05 19:57 UTC
I don't, and have never had a schedule for the show, so I was not aware of the substitution, I am going off the results, but this happens regularly, and I stand by my whinge. He'd have looked better if he'd withdrawn.

You know something, I own two dogs in partnership with a high profile exhibitor, and I am always really really careful not to show them at shows where he is judging any breed. This person has nothing to do with either of these dogs, except in name on reg docs. I'm a nobody, no threat to anyone, but I abide by the rules, but it really bugs me when these people are allowed to get away with things like this. I know that the alternative for them is to register the dogs in their Mothers name or whatever, but at least that's allowed.

So that wasnt Howard Ogden juding the stakes class ?
- By Moonmaiden Date 09.09.05 20:05 UTC
Well Howard certainly didn't win any CCs, I've been through all the results on Higham Press  & with knowing the exact circumstances I can't comment on who did or didn't judge
- By ClaireyS Date 09.09.05 20:23 UTC
Who was juding the stakes class?
- By thomas-the-spot [gb] Date 09.09.05 20:05 UTC
I agree with you Dawn.  A lot of the judges put the dogs in other peoples names and get around it that way.  It hacks me off as well although I dont think we will ever be in the big league so it will not directly effect us.  It is down to the KC  to clamp down.  I suppose looking at it the other way today we had a sub judge and there were a hell of a lot of hacked of people who would not get their money back.  It actually worked in our favour but we did meet one of the other judges who was going to be judging the spotties and I would not have been happy either as he had given a ticket to one girl and the other one of mine he doesnt like.  I suppose they do justify it by saying they have paid the money so dont want to lose it.

To have withdrawn would have been the ethical thing.

B****y Highampress. I take it all back for this occassion only. I have just looked again to see why you all cannot work it out what I'm ranting on about, and the results I can see, are showing the 2004 puppy stakes on the 2005 results. Damn it. Poor Howard Ogden, it never had anything to do with him.

Foot firmly wedged in mouth, *@?^&$$*** Sorry.

ROFLMAO

Well done Fiona I know who KS is & very well done, but Howard has no side to him & if he thinks your dog is the best it will win

I did think it was odd as there had been no announcement in either dog paper or on HP re change of judge
- By f.a.brook [gb] Date 10.09.05 11:21 UTC

- By thomas-the-spot [gb] Date 10.09.05 16:40 UTC
You certainly did.  Charlotte was the girl who came chasing after you to find out if you had already qualified so she could go to Crufts with the faggot chops.  I was gutted he gave her a RCC a couple of weeks ago.  Mind you yours was very well behaved and showed a lot better.  I am hoping the old bag will have finished her season by Friday so we can take her under my beloved Frankie in the YKC stakes at Darlington.  Mind you the way my luck is going he will probably toss her as well ;)
- By f.a.brook [gb] Date 10.09.05 17:14 UTC
now thats why i thought i had reconised that face! ooops sorry i missed you! He gave my dog a 2nd behing Mikes white standard dog a few years ago! so i did wonder if he would still like him turns out he did so i am well pleased, im now causing problems for crufts as i dont normally go utility day! i couldnt stand him properly so had to spit on his back feet (not nice i no) it did work, the one time i forgot my water bottle i needed it!!!

Talking of flouting the rules, am I the only one that has noticed how often husbands/wives, partners/partners? are judging groups and their respective other halves are showing in the breeds?
Now dont tell me that the showing partners do not stay in the hotels and attend the pre show get togethers.
Surely for the one show it wouldnt hurt to not enter? but conveniently the dogs are not registered to the judging partner even though they live in the same house,
Hardly playing the game in my eyes, but according to the Kennel club they havent broken any rules.
- By ClaireyS Date 11.09.05 21:04 UTC
at the end of the day I think it is up to the judge to go with his own mind and not be scared to put up an unknown dog rather than feel pressured into putting up those of fellow judges/their partners/the biggest face :(
- By jessie [gb] Date 18.09.05 08:18 UTC
I know exactly how you all feel and there is a lot of it going on, ***** is one and so is ******, his wife shows when he is judging. At one show he handled with her and was seen chatting to the breed judge, who just so happened to be the group and judge and yes, they won the group.
It will always go on, the only way to object is with your entries, dont enter under these people.
- By Teri Date 18.09.05 16:28 UTC
Hi Jessie,

I'd be very careful about publicly naming people on the internet in such a context.

That aside, anyone who is been actively involved in exhibiting and judging a variety of breeds over literally decades will quite naturally know most of the other senior judges on the circuit too.  Equally, being in the top end of their fields, is it not more probable that when exhibiting they only bring out the best of their stock?
- By jessie [gb] Date 18.09.05 16:58 UTC
I agree, in many cases, but the whole system needs an overhaul if it is to encourage newcomers. I note what you say about naming names, but those I named were taken from the dog paper and breed notes. But i will not do so in future.
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 18.09.05 17:10 UTC
I would class myself as a newcomer to the show world, I have been showing for just over a year and I haven't been discouraged by the results, sometimes we win, sometimes we don't but we love going to shows as a hobby, meeting up with people, talking dogs etc. Remember even the top people don't always win. I am a complete unknown, I show my puppy because I love being in the ring and showing him, we love to win for the buzz and recognision of the hardwork me and his breeders have put into him.
And as a complete unknow I'd just like to add, not in anyway a brag, that ***** gave me BPIB and RBD at 7 months old..why, because she liked him, not because I can do her a favour(because I can't!!) but because on the day that was her opinion. Judges at the top of their game do what they think is the right thing to do, they aren't out to impress people.

Hi Emily,

It's refreshing to read such a positive post from someone relatively new to the show world - there are, thankfully, many more like you :)  This is supposed to be something we do for enjoyment - IMO, if it gets to the stage (and it can, justifiably do so) that it's a negative experience, then it makes sense to find an alternative hobby.  Showing is too pricey and involves a lot of travel and dedication so it makes sense to me that if it ain't fun, it ain't worth it ;)

Good luck, Teri
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 18.09.05 18:11 UTC
Hi Teri :)

I agree, you hear so many moans from people but you think 'hang on, if all you are gonna do is moan, then why bother, save yourself the money and go out for a nice walk with your dogs instead''!

Some days I wonder to myself why I do it, but its only a fleeting thought and is soon gone when I think about the fun I've had over this past year, what I have achieved, both showing wise and personally, the people I've met, the places I've been and the other things I have been involved in as an off shoot to the showing thing.

Its been an experience, thats for sure :D

Having received an email and traced it to here, I wish to not associate myself with the Jessie that is posting on this question. I will email champdogs tomorrow and tell them my password has been used by someone else. This has happened before on another chat site, I know because I get emails.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 18.09.05 19:16 UTC
You need to be more careful with your passwords, and also not set your computer to rember them and log in automatically, that should prevent others posting as you.
