I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who is thinking of getting a boxer as she knows someone who has 3wk old pups. I'm trying to be very rational about it and want to let her know what to look for and what questions to ask. I know that they often have problems with their hearts, with elbows/hips and cancer but could anyone point me in the right direction with what else I should tell her. she is going to see the pups next week and I'm going with her and her partner to see them so want to be as prepared as possible. I asked about KC reg and she says they are registered (but she doesn't know who with - hope its not DLRC) and that both parents can be seen - hoping its not a convenience or accidental mating. The pups are being sold for £550 is that normal for a boxer? the other thing is, if I can find out the names of parents would anyone on champdogs be able to tell me if they are from good lines or have any serious flaws. the dog is not intended for breeding or showing. thanks in advance
Hi i have sent you a pm, and yes its boxer puppies are now being sold for anything from £500 TO £600 for a pet
If the parents have been heart tested you can see a list of heart tested clear dogs on the
internet. (But some of the names are missing - I know as one of mine is missing off the list)
try www.boxerbreedcouncil.co.uk
Average prices for Boxer puppies range from £500-700. Depending on bloodlines and if parents are of show quality etc etc.
I've not come accross a Boxer with elbow problems and have only heard about hip problems
but not come accross it myself. Hearts - there are two conditions known in the Boxer - Aortic Stenosis
which is what the heart testing is being done for. Only grades zero or one are considered clear for breeding purposes.
Cardiomyopathy is the other condition which is coming to the fore within the breed.
