can someone please help i have a six mouths old Yorkie but can't get her to go all night i get up at 5:30 ever morning yet there is still has had a wee .. we have now installed a flap and trained her to use it she does this perfect all day and night when we are up . yet i still wake up to a wee i have also got up every too hours all night yet come morning i still have to clean it up some wee ..... no luck with a crate she just wee in that and then has to sleep in it ......HELP ME PLEASE

this might work try and see when we first got our pup we were told about a feeding rule in the morning feed and water ya dog leeve the food and water down untill they have eaten then put them out for 15mins same each time you feed them they then learn food pee poo this worked with us but then we didnt have a routeen

Try feeding her last meal at night a few hours earlier, making sure she has a wee (going outside with her) before you go to bed, and get up in the middle of the night to take her out.  You need to take her out before she wees, not after...

yeah i do feed her at about 5pm (taking the food away)and make sure she goes out .. i also stay with her to make sure she wee's and poo's ...... i have also got up ever two hours and make sure she goes for a wee but the last two hours before i get up she wee's.... i have also left the doors open all night yet she just wee's by them she is so good in the day or when we are with her (think i'm going to be cleaning wee up for the rest of my life)

i've got some stuff from pets at home called (simple solution stain and odor remover) it doesn't do much and i take the water away about one hour before i go to bed

I would instead use biological washing powder to clean up ... apparently it neutralises the smell of the urine.  Non-bio doesn't do the same job though.  I bought a cheap box of bio. and it's worked a treat, although it does leave a white powdery film if I put too much powder in the water (laminate flooring). 

Maybe also take the water away a little earlier too.  Obviously if your pup is somewhere where his crate will catch the sunlight or he'll get hot, he'll need access to water, but otherwise, he probably doesn't need to drink as late as he is.  I give my pup his last meal around 6pm and it's soaked with water and I pretty much remove his access to water from about 8pm.  He goes out for his last wee around 11pm and he's sleeping through dry until 6am (he's 12 weeks old).  Hope that helps a bit.

Pups, adult dogs or any animal for that matter should ALWAYS have access to fresh water.  Water deprivation is not a method for toilet training overnight.  Pups do not have effective bladder & bowel control until several months of age and hence cannot always manage to go through the night without needing to at least urinate.  Removal of water does not stop his bladder filling up - it simply means that he is forced to go thirsty and can even cause complications with UTI's and kidney infections.

Well, that's interesting - are you saying that you get up every 2 hours but she still wees between 3.30am and 5.30am, which is when you said you usually get up?  If so that seems pretty strange!

We have a 14 week old lab and have a similar problem.  We spoke to the chap who takes our dog class and he suggestd that we stop letting Kiera have free access to the garden as it blurs the boundary between inside and outside.  He said we should now start closing the door if we're not outside with Kiera and instead start taking her out and staying out with her for 5 mins at a time so she learns to go when we ask her to.

Maybe the dog flap is contributing to a similar problem for you? 

Thought it might be worth a mention - it's draining isn't it this toilet taining lark!

Good post Nicky and a very valid point ;)  Lots of us tend to leave our back doors open especially in warm weather and it's easy to forget that if training a puppy at this time it is not necessarily making the distinction between toileting outside being the only acceptable place - often it just happens to need it while it's out there but owners can think the puppy has learned something and then get frustrated and downhearted when he/she widdles etc indoors without any warning :P

Hello!  Awwwww I do know how you feel, it's tiring, frustrating, smelly and damned time consuming but you will get there in the end!  Are you making a big fuss of your pup and giving him a reward for doing it outside? That really helped push Kiera along for us.

I had never thought of that being a problem until I read your post! My 10 month old toy poodle is a very slow learner when it comes to housetraining albeit he was 6 months old when we got him and completely untrained. He is dry in his crate at night (by my bed) but has plenty of accidents (mostly poos) anywhere n the house- reading your post I think maybe I just havent taught him the difference properly. Doohhh !!!! And there was me thinking it was because he was a 'thick' chocolate !

Have you got an outside light, as pup could be frightened to go out in the dark when your're not around, I have a yorkie pup 15 weeks old, she has newspaper to use, but sometimes its dry in the morning, was leaving the newspaper down in the day, but she was coming in from the garden to use it, so have now put it outside the door in the day, she uses it there. I have a flap which her mother uses but finding it difficult to get her to use it. Her mother has put her off a few times by flying through it and it has swung back and nearly knocked the pup out. But yesterday morning she had gone out through it before I got up and was crying to come in, she couldn't manage coming back through it, she is only a titch though, only weighs 2lb 13 ozs, but I will keep persevering with the flap.
