This is mainly a UK based site, although we do have people from all around the world.  This is illegal in our country.

This is a predominantly UK website and ear cropping has been illegal in the UK for over 100 years, on the grounds of cruelty.

I have danes and I would never have their ears cropped. It's in my opinion, cruel and totally barbaric and the poor dog gains nothing except a whole load of pain. Leave your puppy the way it is with a beautiful natural ear set.

Are you planning on showing? if you're not i'd leave well alone :)

If you are then have a good think, there are more natural eared danes now doing well all over than there used to be its upto you if you want to make a stance or go with the flow.

I must admit like Margaret i adore the natural ear they look so much softer, the features look too harsh wth the croped look.

Mygirl the croped ears was ment to make them look harsh.....you don't want a soopy looking guard dog do you ;)

ice_queen if you  have ever seen a natural eared great dane that is angry you would not call it soopy. Cropping a dane or any other breed for that matter is not a straight forward procedure and more often than not you end up with a flop crop which then has to be done all over again inflicting more agony for the poor animal. Why do you think it was banned in this country a good many years ago ? Surely you cannot support this cruel and barbaric practise ?

I dont think icequeen was supporting cropping... just saying that people who crop ears are making dogs look meaner..

Margaret, Ice-Queen is against ear cropping, I think it was a tongue in cheek quote!

I hate seeing these breeds in Europe with their cropped ears making them look vicious!!

If you crop, it will have to be done when the pup is about 8-9wks old, no older.  YOu will then have to bandage and re-bandage the ears for months afterwards, every day.  It is a huge task.

Its terrible the things people do to dogs for fashion reasons or to look "tough"
:-( :-(

Ear-cropping, at any age, on any breed, is totally illegal here in the UK.   The UK standard for great danes does not call for cropped ears.

Great Danes are Boar Hounds not guard dogs so could never understand why they were cropped
