My new GSD has stopped eating. He looks as if he has some kind of lump on his mouth. I took him to the vet imediately and she ran bloods and said they were fine. She noticed the mouth and said keep an eye out but she deemed it insignificant. now today (this being 2 days without food) he still isnt eating although i tried him with some tuna and he loved it.
Any ideas?
I will try to take a piccy of the lump and post it.
Many thanks

Hi DB,
unfortunately there is no facility for posting photos on the forum. How old is your GSD and, apart from the lump in his mouth and lack of interest in food, how is his general condition?
Teri
i would go back to the vets, although the lump maybe nothing to worry about, it maybe making it uncomfortable for him to eat properly.
Hope he's better soon :-)
I would go back to the vet, or see another one. The vet should still be suggesting what the lump is. If you press the lump (lightly) is it causing the dog discomfort. Difficult to say. Is the lump inside or outside the mouth. How old is your dog. You say new so is it a puppy. Is he teething. You say he's not eating however he did love some tuna you gave him. So is it that he's finding eating uncomfortable rather than he's lost his appetite.
If he's a puppy on puppy dry food, soak the food until soft and see if he's eathing it. If he does it suggests something is causing him discomfort rather than loss of appetite.
If your vet has deemed the lump insignificant then she should therefore tell you what that lump is. I would wander why she would run bloods if she has no suggestions for you of what it would be.
I would also contact the breeder of the dog and speak to them about it.
Any good breeder is always there to help with owners of their puppies
Pippy is 12 weeks old now I have had him for 2 weeks. He ate some tuna tonight which leads me to think that he can eat but choses not to lol. The lump is on the bottom jaw at the front. it does give him pain but only when i touch it. Tonight he has eaten a full bowl of dried food I mixed with tuna, i think he may just be a fussy eater. I have just changed his food from a working dog food to some toehr dried food for pups which the shop said was one of the best (£30 a bag called BURGESS SUPA DOG PUPPY FOOD. She said it was the next down from James Wellbeloved.
Thanks for all the replies.
You could give puppy milk formula from your Vet,it is only £6 for a large size.Once mixed in warm water you could add well crushed complete pup mixer (crush it in a plastic bag using a hammer, etc), and then spoon this into the mouth very gently, slightly holding their head upwards,as he may try to push the food back out.Or just give the milk formula on its own in a syringe 3x daily, you can get the syringes from the Vet or buy them in a Chemist (large sized ones). At least then you know the pup will be getting much needed vitamins and goodness from the Milk, and you will also see a big diference in his bone structure later on.I think the puppy milk formula we use is made by Vetbed.
