Hi all, just looking for sum info on where to begin about showing.
I am bringing home my new little girl next week she will 7 weeks old, i've made some enquires were i live(which is Doncaster South Yorkshire) and found a obedience class which also does ringcraft and i think its agility, so i will be taking her there when she's had her injections. I'd like to show her if she's got potential, so i thought the classes would be a good place to start, but not sure where to begin regarding proper showing.
Can anyone help ?
And also can anyone say if she will be accepted for showing cause she is all white, but has a blue ear, and i can't find any info on whether the blue staffy or part blue as she is are allowed to be entered into shows.

The KC standard for Staffords says: Colour Red, fawn, white, black or blue, or any one of these colours with white. Any shade of brindle or any shade of brindle with white. Black and tan or liver colour highly undesirable.

The ringcraft classes will be ideal, and the people there will be very helpful and advise you about showing. You have plenty of time, as pups can't be shown until they're 6 months old.
:)

Thanks for the quick response.
I have checked out the breed standard and did know that blues are accepted, so i assume that if they are accepted by the kennel club then she can be entered for shows, the only thing i don't know yet is her eye colour, her dads line are all blues but with brown eyes mums line is white and reds. So i'm hoping she has brown eyes.

If her eyes are any colour except brown I'm afraid IMO  it would affect her chances badly in the ring.Eyes should be dark with a dark rim.

Her eyes are not dark rimmed but thats because shes white there pink, but i thought as long as her eyes are brown then she'd be ok, as her eye rim is related to her skin colouring.

She is KC registered, isn't she? (Just checking!)

Dogs in shows are judged as to how closely they fit their KC breed standard, so if that says something is correct, then you needn't worry.
:)

Its quick on here today !
Yes she is kc reg.

Just checked the breed standard regarding the eyes and this is what it says. Dark preferred but may bear some relation to coat colour. Round, of medium size, and set to look straight ahead. Eye rims dark.
But her rims can't be dark when her skin is white so now i don't know.
But at the end of the day i have bought her as a pet, so if she's not to standard then i'm not going to worry to much, just thought i'd try my hand at showing her.
Had staffy's all my life and always wanted to take it one step further, but not to worry.

Me again.
I've just found this on this site. STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER Official U.K.C. Breed Standard

EYES -- Dark eyes are preferred, but may bear some relation to coat color. The round, medium size eyes are set on to look straight ahead.

Faults: Light eyes. Pink eye rims, except where the coat color surrounding the eye is white.

Is this the same as the kc standard ?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 07.09.05 15:28 UTC
No, the AKC standards are often different to ours.

The UK breed standard is here. Pink eye rims will be considered a fault, but I've no idea how serious a fault it is in Staffords. In dalmatians (my own breed) it's quite serious.

Just a thought, as she's predominantly white - has she been hearing-tested (ideally BAER)? White Staffies have been found to be deaf.
- By hell66 [gb] Date 07.09.05 15:32 UTC
I don't believe she's been hearing tested, but i will ask the breeder when i next speak to him. So as for the eyes i'm still not really sure, but i'll keep trying to find out.

Pink round the eyes is due to lack of pigment and is considered a fault and so she would be penalised for it.
As for eye colour I thought from your post you meant her dads line had blue eyes ! ...silly me! :D

So can anyone answer this question, what if when she's old enough and i decide to let her have a litter, will there be a big chance that her pups will have the same eyes as her or does that depend on the sire of the pups.

Staffies are not my breed but the best advice whatever the breed is if you have ANY idea whatsoever of breeding a litter, then buy the best quality bitch that you can afford, with the very best breeding behind her, who is as near to the breed standard as you can find (or wait for from the best producing kennel!) :)
- By hell66 [gb] Date 07.09.05 18:18 UTC
She is a quality bitch, excellent pedigree, and i do have an idea about breeding a litter as my mum has been a breeder of staffordshires for 15 years, so i have a great knowledge of that side of it, but i want to take it that step further by showing a dog of my own. And i'd like that dog to be one that i have bred, but i am talking 2 years down the line here and maybe things will change who knows.
The problem i'm having is determining the eye colours, but she was only 5 weeks when i saw her and she still had those puppy eyes.

Hi
Sory I'm a bit late here, just saw this.I'm in Doncaster too so maybe you'll be going to the same obedience and ringcraft that I go to? Wednesdays in Bentley? IF so, you will find there are usually a few Staffie people there with show dogs, including a few breeders, and then there should be people there who can give you good advice on everything regarding showing your dog. It varies a bit as to who turns up, sometimes the staffie gang don't come every week, but generally speaking there are more staffie show dogs there than any other breed most of the time.

Hi there, goldmali, yes i will be taking her to the one at bentley i only live round the corner have the number for wanda and violet but not yet rang as she will only be 7 weeks old next wednesday when i go and fetch her. So the club is on weds at what time ? And can you just turn up?
I'm pleased you've replied to my message, cause regarding the showing its all new to me, and i can't wait to get my little girl and be able to show her off, shes gorgeous. well i think so anyway, and taking her to the classes helps me and her to get the best from each other.
Hopefully speak again if not i'll see you there.

Hi there
Yes it is Bentley Pavilion every Wednesday (except this week it was cancelled hence I am at home at the computer right now, LOL!) and obedience training beginners class starts at 7, ringcraft usually from 8 onwards (it's in the back room) and the intermediate obedience at 8, advanced at 9. Yes you can just turn up on the day, no problems at all!
- By hell66 [gb] Date 07.09.05 19:48 UTC
Thats brill, i'm sat in front of the pc 2. I will ring wanda or violet nearer the time when she can go, after her jabs, and like you say i will probably get all the help i need there. What breed of dog do you have ?
Thanks again.
- By Goldmali Date 07.09.05 20:15 UTC
I'm the mad person in the corner with loads of dogs, LOL. I always bring a Malinois pup, and my friend that I tend to come with has the litter sister of that pup and she also has Border Collies. I also have Golden Retrievers and sometimes bring a large crossbreed, and a little Papillon puppy, and of course my adult Malinois. :) Wanda does the ringcarft and Violet does the training -Violet can appear a bit abrupt but believe me, she has a heart of gold underneath the exterior, LOL. I've been going to the same club for the past 7 years.
- By hell66 [gb] Date 07.09.05 20:29 UTC
Well you know who i will be when i come in, my staffy is white with a blue ear. So can i take her to the training first and and then do the ringcraft. How does it work ? Does she have to do the training sessions first and then move on to ringcraft.
Sorry bout all the questions.
- By Goldmali Date 07.09.05 20:42 UTC
It's up to you, you can do both if you want or just the ringcraft. With a young puppy you may find doing both is a bit much as they tire so easily, so you can always start off with ringcraft which is less taxing for the pup, less dogs as well, and then after a few weeks do training as well if you want. Some people do one, others do both. :)
- By hell66 [gb] Date 07.09.05 20:51 UTC
Ok i think what i'll do is come along the first week and just watch if thats allowed and decide from there, thanks for all the info and i will see you there as soon as she's allowed to go out.
Thanks again
Helen
