Does anyone else have this?

We have it in our hallway; it did look lovely when we moved in,but over the last 7 years has got very scuffed and needs something doing to it before we put our house on the market ...

I saw a programme with a cleaning product that also seemed to revive the parquet beautifully, almost re-staining it. Does anyone know of such a product, or have any other ideas? I've looked in several shops but can't seem to find anything.

I must admit, all I've ever done is to run a damp mop over it quickly whilst i get on with more interesting things :P

I've never had it in any of our houses, but I did see it on a program once, they buffed the floor with one of the proper buffing machines, and then rubbed a wood oil over it, it looked quite time consuming but it came up lovely and looked like new when they finished :D

I don't know what sort of oil it was, I would guess maybe teak oil, or even bees wax, but I don't know if this would make it slippy, you could try asking at B&Q, they seem quite helpful with these things :)

Sorry I should have said, it's varnished at the moment, so we would need to sand it down i would think if were were going to use wood oil (sounds lovely though :) ).

I don't mind sanding it, except we have so much to do, I'm really after more of a slighty quicker fix as it needs to be on the market in a couple of weeks and we are still painting madly cleaning, etc...:P

I think the only thing you could do then, is to varnish it with a darker stain so the imperfections are hidden a little, or you could get a nice big rug!!!

Hope someone else has a bit more knowledge that will help :D

If its laquered I personly think It will probably be really hard doing anything with it, i doubt you can do anything with the laquered areas as a stain wont take to those parts and if you varnish it ..it will probably look uneven in colour and texture .....  You can hire sanding machines its a dirty job though :P wood will be everywhere .there are companies that will  come and sand and re seal . otherwise mabe you will have to buy a runner :P  goodluck :)

Thanks Natalie and Lovelady, i think you are both right; I will have to bite the bullet and either get it done properly or hide it. I think a runner won't hide it to be honest, as the area is probably too square... aaaargh!!  :P

If you go for the hide it option then you could choose a natural carpet and have the sides bound so it makes a type of rug  to the right shape of your hall . Its somthing alot of people are doing at the moment and its not too exspensive either

That might be an option, we have a carpet person coming soon anyway... thanks!
