I have a 7 month old JR who also eats poo. He is getting better as I watch him go and am waiting to pick it up before he can, so slowly, hopefully he will get out of the habit.
My other dog doesn't eat it but I pick hers up equally as fast so my JR doesn't get any ideas to eat hers too.

It's a totally natural thing to do. Some grow out of it, some don't. Don't worry about it. My 10mth old pup used to do it lots, and another CD'er told me not to worry about it. The minute I stopped thinking about it, he stopped doing it :D :D :D

Hi Wendy
don't mean to be alarmist but sometimes dogs eats poo due to a dietary problem or deficiency. We have had personal experience of this in a young GSD. She was terrible for it but also started losing weight - turned out she couldn't absorb Vit B12 & needed a change in diet. I also know of a young sibe eating his poo & suffering loose stools. Owner changed him on to a complete dry food which stopped him eating the poo, dog still gets a bit loose at times though. What a lovely thought! I'm off for my curry!!!!
My bitches eat their own p--- , the oldest is 5, it has not had any bad effects on her. I put it down to bitches clearing up when they have a litter of pups. I know friends that have tried things like giving pineapple to eat with their food, but nothing seems to work. Like someone else said I think its down to clearing up as they go !!!
