Hi everyone,

Just a quickie.  Last night after being at training class Toby was panting really heavily when we got home.  I assumed he was warm and needed a drink, which he had (although he'd had plenty at his training class), but he continued to pant.  It wasn't particularly warm in the house, or at least I don't think it was (guess it was probably warmer for Toby - fur coat and all!).  He continued panting for a good 20 minutes after getting in the house, and I mean serious panting, like he'd run a marathon!!

Just wondered why he might be doing this?  Any ideas?

When did he start panting?  Panting can have various causes: others will be know more than me, but three that I have experience of are stress (eg fear), illness (ie very high temperature) and also as part of a mild fit - I remember my in-laws dog having a fit at our house, which consisted of his eyes going out of focus and heavy, heavy panting.

Hope he's ok.

are you sure it wasnt down to being over heated?

I ask as its been very warm here where i am for the last few days, and our kai has been waking me up in the night cos he's too warm, i had to put a fan near his crate to keep the air moving as the nites have been very still/calm.
He has also been panting alot durin the day. I have noticed if our room temps go above 20 degrees he starts getting too warm :-)

My puppy is panting more than normal at the moment I think its the warm close weather were having at the moment she prefers to lie outside in the evening and then she is fine, whereas my older girl doesnt seem bothered by the heat but she has a slightly lighter coat then pup.

Oh right, I'll assume he was warm then, poor thing.  Might have to get him a fan.  Thanx for replies :)

Panting is pretty normal , my 12 year old pants for 1-2 hours after a good swim.
