Hi ive just looked at a litter of pups on a web site and the sire of the pups was also the father of the dam, is it just me or does any one else have a problem with this kind of breeding,
If the sire has any faults he could of passed them on to his daughter he has then mated his own daughter, making him dad and granddad?  i could understand if it was a champion line they wish to preserve but it is not
Would love some other people's opinions,
Thanks breezey

Done by a knowledgeable breeder, I don't have a problem with it - in fact I have done it myself when I knew not just the parents but generations behind & most brothers & sisters too.
"If the sire has any faults he could of passed them on to his daughter"
Every dog has faults, you just try not to double up on them and looking at it more positively, if both the dog & the bitch excel in some points, these will hopefully come out in the resulting litter.
If it's done without the necessary knowledge then it could be a recipe for disaster. If it's just done for convenience -
it's inexcusable

I agree, if it's done carefully it's ok, if not it's a very bad idea. My boy is half brother to half sister, and although if she had it to do again, the breeder would not have done it because of the SM carrier in the background (not then known about), she certainly produced a lovely looking litter with that mating!

My litter are fairly closely bred. Grandfather on one side to the Sire is the Dams Father. I took the advice of my breeder when choosing the best dog suited to my bitch and what would improve and produce the best puppies. I trusted my breeders knowledge of all the dogs on both sides to make the best choice.
