I walk a working cocker spaniel most days, 'cos I love him.  The owner says that he's a bit of a throwback!  (although from pedigree stock.)  If we stop for a chat with someone, he eventually brings out his penis.  It is as long as his legs, and upsets him a great deal....he cries, and has to walk with painful difficulty until it - eventually - retracts, and this can take a few minutes.  He has been neutered.  It's horrible to look at ( you can hardly not see it!) and looks as tho it's pulling his innards out.  I'd be grateful (as would he) for some advice on this matter that I can then tactfully pass on to his kind owner.  Judy

This sounds like he gets overexcited and is then sexually aroused, at a guess I would expect he was castrated at the silly ovesexed teenage stage and this has now become a habit that he didn't grow out of.

What looks like his innards coming out is just the engorged Gland at the base of a dogs penis (looks like a second set of testes), which is what would help the tie during mating keeping the dog inside the bitch.

The best thing is to totally ignore it as he may find the attention rewarding, and also don't allow people to fuss him to the extent where this happens.

If it happened at home then you could use a clean flannel with ice to help the engorgement go down more quickly, or a bag of frozen peas.

As you have found castration doesn't necesarily make a dog uninterested in sex.

Brainless, I have been asked to thank you for your post on this thread. Judy found it most helpful :)

Hehehe :-)  Brainless I am just imagining the physical reaction that many guys would have from reading your post and visualising whapping a pack of frozen peas on the offending article!!!

LMAO!!!!

Years ago after having my first child, I had mastitis and was recommended to use frozen peas.  Feeling very poorly I sent first husband out to get peas and he came into room with peas, a bowl and a pair of scissors having snipped the corner off the bag!!!

I just hope that things improve for them.
