Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunatley the detangler just doesn't seem to be making a huge impact. I have order cowboy magic detangler but am still waiting for the delivery! Sigh! I currently use a metal slicker, comb (the teeth are alternating lengths), and a pin cushin brush. Any suggestion to tools that I'm missing or any books/articles/websites that may just help me. Also the cheese titbits worked magic!!

I use a Spratts all metal comb no 71, no slicker or pin brush to get matts out. The comb with the 2 lengths of teeth is a moulting comb. I like the spratts combs as they last for years have a look at these

Just dematted someone's pet cavalier & reduced it's size by about a 1/4 don't think they have ever groomed the poor thing, took carry bags of coat out & sent owners off with flea in ear very embarassed they were after seeing my boys

Well done MM hope they keep it in better condition from now on. Not sure what to suggest - my friend's 7 that I sometimes groom can be a bit matted as they lead a pretty active life, but there's never been anything that patient work with a comb and a bit of sneaky scissoring won't solve.
