my 4-5 month old bsd pup.. has fallen ill.. he's having a high temperature and loose stools with mucus..
he has also thrown up once.{ all his lunch :( }
he must have eaten something wrong.. and he's not even showing any interest in food or " chewy"s
he is eating but without any interest.. he has been sleeping the whole day..
he took a small walk for about 5- 10 min, before he tired out.
the vet is closed already..{ there's no 24/7 vet around here.. yoiu'll have to go quite far to find one}
can anyone give me some immidiate precautions and some tips that'll make him feel better. :( :( :(

If you're in the UK then the vet should provide 24/7 cover regardless - have you phoned to see if there is an emergency cover surgery?

You don't go to a Doctors surgery when you feel ill then - it's a general term to describe the building/service - not just a reference to the act of performing surgery.....
Is he drinking OK and keeping it down?

pets at home will prob have a vet open all day if your own vet has closed ... just a thought.
Sounds like he does need to see a vet. Is he drinking ok?

Hi Reggie,
Ideally he should be seen by a vet as he may have eaten something toxic for example :( If there's no way you can travel to one, surely you can at least telephone one and describe his symptoms over the phone.
Normally with sickness and loose stools it is simply a matter of starving for 24 hours and providing fresh water at all times but the fact that he has a high temperature indicates an infection or more serious problem requiring medication.
Try to think of anything he may have eaten or drunk which could have caused a problem or if he has had access to an area where anything dangerous was stored etc. then telephone a vet practice or Vet Hospital
nowLet us know how it goes. Teri ;)
Digger, Reggie is in the US.

Theres a 48 hour bug going around, same symptoms as you describe, taking him for a walk wont of been a good idea, just make sure hes hydrated, try to keep his temperature down, and if you can see a vet as they have 2 injections that will stop the sickness and looseness , also bringing the temperature down a touch,
I'd say it sounds abit worse than a bug with the mucus in his stools, he really needs to go the vet asap.
Warm regards Susan

we are not in france anyway...

Reggie has he been vaccinated?
By reggie

he had been fully vaccinated and he needs a de worming tablet once a month { we've just taken the day before yesterday} and a rabies injection and distememper one's once in a year.
the loose stools has happened before but still he used to be active. his temperature has risen and his moiuth is very very warm and his nose has gone a bit dry and warm..
he seems to be drinking well. we've got the antibiotics for him he seems to be a little better..

Reggie
You MUST get this pup seen by a vet- here in the UK
Yvonne all vets have to provide an out of hours service - (usually staffed by locums) I would assume that the USA is the same.Call your nearest surgery and listen to the ansaphone message this will usaully tell you how to contact the out of hours service. Please do not leave your pup - at this age he could dehydrate very quickly and his symptoms could indicate something serious is going on. Good luck !

you mean i should catch the next flight for uk with rubble????
chill.. we're in the US..
we have taken him to the vet today... he seems alright.. he been drinking lots of water..{ mind you its a very hot day indeed}
there are 24 hour vets.. but its quite far from where we are.. and rubble seems to throw up the very second he enters the car.. he looks real sad whenin car he vomi ts continuosly.. whatever he has eaten..
the vet says he has eaten something.. not poisonous.. but proberbly some plastic and that should be out in a matter of two to three days..
the temperature rose because of the bad stomach only..
he seems alright now...
