Just a note to say that Hyperdrug.com have got a good deal on at the moment - we just got I litre 10% Panacur liquid for £55.00 including VAT, with free postage.
About £30 cheaper than our vets - sorry vets!

Thanks Jo. I'd intended to buy a litre from the local farm supplier this weekend but hyperdrug are cheaper.

Is there a use by date on it and how long does it last? (in months that is!!).
It sounds a bargain and a cost effective way of providing up to date worming.

It lasts for years, I think last time I bought a litre it had about 3 years shelf life. Have only just enough to do the pups on Monday, so must order some more, as all the dogs will need doing when pups go.

Certainly cheap enough if it suits your dogs but I poured
3 litres of it down the sink - every one had rigorous projectile vomiting with it :( Thought I'd offer it to some BSD friends - they just burst out laughing and said their dogs "sprayed" the walls with it

That's when I introduced it to the drainage system :D

Hi.. i had a look at that site, i use the drontal plus tablets and see that they are cheaper on there than my vets. anybody know the shelf life on tablets? :-)
if you ring and ask I'm sure they'd tell you.
I bought some this year and sure that they aren't out of date until 2007.
Thanks looks like it will be worth me getting some then, def cheaper than i've just paid at vets
:-)

Just a proviso - we don't use it on our baby pups when we have them- you can get adverse reactions.
It's been a good and effective way of worming our adults, but horses for courses - if it doesn't suit yours, use something different! Good idea to ring the changes occasionally anyhow.

Hi Jo what do you use on your ickle puppies? Drontal puppy? Panacur paste? and what sort of adverse side effects have you seen with Panacur liquid?
Thank you :-)
I used the Drontal puppy liquid and had no ill effects when worming my Boxer pups
with it.
Be prepared to get violent luminous pink liquid down yourself if you don't have
a helper..... :D

I've used Drontal Puppy for the baby pups, and never had trouble. The last time I used Panacur for them, some years ago now, they had the most violent gut-ache after, and we had to take one of them to the vets. People have lost pups afterwards.
But the Panacur seems absolutely fine with the adults - and is a good and cost-effective way of worming them.
Why it had this effect on baby pups, I just don't know.

Thanks Jo ...I was just curious as I have used Panacur liquid in both young puppies and kittens with no adverse reaction. Of course there is always a first time......and it is interesting to hear the views of others....I believe that years ago there were problems related to worming pregnant bitches with Panancur but I think in recent years the formula has been changed somewhat and Panacur has become a much safer wormer :-)

Oddly enough - never had a problem worming pregnant bitches with Panacur. The problems came with the second worming with the pups at about 4.5 weeks - first worming seemed OK.
I didn't know that they'd changed the spec. ever - do you know more details?

I have always used panacur until this time with no problems but this time changed to drontal. I actually thought the bright pink colour was brilliant for knowing for definate you have done one.

I don't know much about it Jo, it was something that my vet mentioned to me on one occasion and I think I have read about it on another forum somewhere..maybe someone else may have some more info about it??
