Is it just us or is there anyone else who thinks that Ben Fogle who co-presents Animal Park is not a good choice for an animal program broadcasted from a wildlife park with, yes, wild and scary animals / insects ?

Anything short of a fluffy bunny (well, one without teeth) and he is quaking in his boots - it's embarrasing to watch ! :D

LOLOLOLOL he is pretty eye candy though if I was into toy boys :D
- By echo [gb] Date 03.09.05 19:32 UTC
echo that
- By Boxer Mum Date 03.09.05 19:37 UTC
Nooooooo :)  Everytime he comes on the tele my little 8 year old boy says 'oh no, he is soooo gay' LOL :D
- By ShaynLola Date 03.09.05 19:39 UTC
Aaah, I think he's quite sweet really :)
- By Boxer Mum Date 03.09.05 19:43 UTC
ROFLMAO - sweet as in marshmallow :D

edited to add - could you imagine him in a dog show ?  He'd have a chihuahua and when the judge asks to see his teeth he'd say 'oh, but isn't that quite dangerous, I mean, do they bite ?'   LOL, sorry, he just cracks me up :D
- By Daisy [gb] Date 03.09.05 20:07 UTC
I think that he's really good and very cute :) It's a shame that it is usually on when I'm at work :(

OK, Ok, I can see I'm out numbered here :)   I suppose every program should have it's comic relief and he does provide that :D
- By Carla Date 03.09.05 20:27 UTC
He went out with Vanessa from BB I think...

Wouldn't do for me - too pretty, too blonde, too camp LOL
- By Daisy [gb] Date 03.09.05 20:32 UTC
Oh, I agree  - he's not at all my type - I prefer John Travolta look-alikes :D But I do like Ben Fogle presenting the programme :) He's not at all like his father tho' :)

I used to really like Ben Fogle (very fanciable) but at Crufts last year we were doing Discover Dogs, one of my dogs (Iain, now don't laugh at the name please, you will hurt his feelings!) was doing all his meeting and greeting like a real star, Ben walked over to us, patted Iain briefly on the head and said in a really posh but condecending voice "Oh, but these Setters are my favourite of all the Setters" to his eqally posh, brunette female friend and they walked off!! not even a hello!
He wasn't all nice and friendly as he is on the t.v quite the opposite and very abrupt, so he obviously puts on a great act for the camera...which is what its all about I suppose!!
So I really went off him...!
- By Boxer Mum Date 03.09.05 21:00 UTC
You know I can imagine him being just like that - a right posh tw*t LOL :D   I'm actually surprised he was there though, I mean, doggies, don't they bite ! :D

The one I liked on crufts (well, at least on tele anyway) was Richard the hamster Hammond 'oh no, their dog's blown up!'  I thought he was funny and that he did actually get into the swing of things.

You may well mock him. If you remember him when he was one of the people living on the remote Scottish island - he was actually one of those who coped the best and actually managed to get on with all those irrespective of their class :) He also, famously, took his dog with him to the island  (it gave birth to a litter, if I remember correctly)

No it wasn't his Lab that had the pups, it was a BC that had a litter.
- By Daisy [gb] Date 03.09.05 21:30 UTC
Oh - fair enough :) I thought that it was his :)

His Lab, Inca, did have pups but it was after he was on Castaway. :-)
- By Boxer Mum Date 03.09.05 22:02 UTC
But time and fame has changed him somewhat - happens to a lot of people and not always for the better, I still don't think he is the right guy to be presenting alongside Kate on Animal Park, we need someone who will get stuck in, I say Bill Odie - he and Kate worked well together on spring watch so I think he would be a good choice for Kates sidekick :)

Not get stuck in ???? He did a 250km marathon across the Sahara last year in aid of WWF. Not enough ?? :)

But he's not getting stuck in with the animals on the program - he seems to be scared of them all so I can't understand why he is co-presenting it - this post is not about what he 'has' done it's about what he isn't doing :D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 03.09.05 22:46 UTC
When you met him at Crufts was he there as 'Ben Fogle, TV personality', doing stuff to camera, or was he there in his own time, like the thousands of other oiks who come to DD, vaguely pat your dog and wander off?
- By pinklilies Date 03.09.05 23:07 UTC
"oiks" jeangenie! How pompous does that  sound? Unbelievable.......
- By liberty Date 03.09.05 23:51 UTC
Lol at 'oiks' can't believe you found that offensive Pinklilies.
- By pinklilies Date 05.09.05 19:50 UTC
well as far as i understand it " oik " is MEANT  to be a derogatory term....for someone you consider to be lowlife, or a lower class. I was just brought up not to make those kind of remarks about people I dont even know. Pardon me for having good manners :D
- By liberty Date 05.09.05 19:53 UTC
 time for a chill pill me thinks :D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 05.09.05 20:31 UTC
.for someone you consider to be lowlife, or a lower class
... or simply to be ill-mannered, just like the people described! ;) Mind you, some of them are lovely, too, and actually talk to you. ;)

Talking about BF, I read that he and James Cracknell are going to be rowing the Atlantic, naked. My OH has visions of them being followed by a flotilla of dinghies, with middle-aged women rowing frantically, exclaiming "Oooh, young, maaan, young maaaan ..."! :D :D
- By Lois_vp [gb] Date 06.09.05 09:37 UTC
I thought the same as you pinklilies - it was the way in which the word was used that I thought was a bit off.
- By Boxer Mum Date 03.09.05 23:12 UTC
I think 'oiks' is a good word - I use it quite a lot myself :D  (the spotty oiks who work in MacD's ! LOL )
- By Setters4me [gb] Date 04.09.05 08:37 UTC
I think he was there as an "oik"!! LOL. Very vauge patting as well.
I like the word "oik" too, I will try and use it today!!
- By Boxer Mum Date 04.09.05 08:48 UTC
Taking the children out for the day before they go back to school, so I'm going to see how many times I can use the word Oik, I just know my kids and OH will join in so it will probably end up a few hundred times if I know them :)

I think it has a good 'round' feeling to the word, very satisfying word to say :D
- By Setters4me [gb] Date 04.09.05 09:15 UTC
My OH just asked me what we were talking about and I told him we were discussing oiks...he has never heard of the word and thinks we are just a tiny bit mad! So I have told him the meaning and will try and get him using the word today too!!
- By Boxer Mum Date 05.09.05 19:58 UTC
Well, we had a good day out - didn't get to use the word 'oik' out loud but did think it quite a lot, there was certainly a lot of people who looked like 'oiks' :)

Oh, and Pinklillies, the word 'may' have had that meaning once upon a time, but we all use words that used to mean things but no longer do - eg. Prat - isn't that supposed to be a pregnant fish ?  And twat - well, I don't think we'll go into that one, and what about 'this poxy thing' - doesn't mean the blasted screwdriver has suddenly been stricken with the pox - they are all now just words that we use as a general light hearted insult :D

I still like and use the word 'oik' - better that then other words I've heard people been called LOL ;D

He always strikes me as a bit "tim nice but dim"
