spot on his paw that looks very sore, if it is a thorn how can we draw it out or will it just come out on its own accord any advice please.

Try getting a bowl of hottish (don't scald him) salty water and holding his paw in it for as long as possible (at least 2 minutes - use a watch to time it!). That done several times a day should help draw out any foreign body.
