As today is 'International Primate Day', I hope you don't mind me posting this. It's something very close to my heart and reading this on the BBC website this morning just shows how bad things are becoming. Can you imagine, in a short time, there is a very strong possibility that there will be no chimps, orangutans etc in the wild. This, mainly due to the bushmeat and pet trade.

As orangs are my particular interest, I ask people to look at this.

Jeangenie - have you ever been to Monkey World in Dorset ?. They are doing so well with their Orang breeding programme. The trade and abuse of them, particularly in Thailand is sickening isn't it ?.

I've not been, but a friend has and said it was great (sent me a postcard of a beeyootiful lickle baby orang!) - I'm afraid that if I went I might be seen leaving with a strangely bulging-and-wriggling jumper ... !

If I went to see them in the wild I'm afraid I'd get apoplectic with rage at their mistreatment and desperate situation and do something silly.

There are some gorgeous orangs in San Diego Zoo! one of the older females loves a cigarette and there is one particular lady who visits the zoo almost daily and sits on the ground outside their compound who has a particular bond with them, they almost talk to her,it's so wonderful to watch. I got some unbelievable photos of them.Their breeding programme is doing really well in America and they certainly have the funds to do some good work with all species, we also saw the baby panda whilst we visited there. It's so sad to think that we may see the extinction of these creatures in the wild during our lifetime and so utterly unbelievable.

Monkey World is about an hour from us and i've been several times - sterling work from the owners. It's a great place to visit :)

I think the people at monkey world do a fantastic job.

That could have been Gordon!
