Can someone please tell how many days my boxer bitch should be kept on the lead for, I don't want to have an unexpected litter, I've been told that she can only mate during a certain timescale but would like this confirmed please.

I'm guessing she's in season! Counting the first day you see blood as being day 1, keep her away from other dogs (only lead exercise, and not at busy times of the day) for a minimum of 21 days. The fertile period within that varies from bitch to bitch and season to season - it can be as early as day 4 or as late as day 20.

Personally I leave it longer (a minimum of 28 days, usually a whole calender month) - my boys dam stood at day 25 :)

Just to add that when she appears to have stopped bleeding it doesn't mean she is now "safe" - can mean the exact opposite and that she is now ready for mating. As the others have said - keep her away from other dogs for a minimum of 21 days
