Hi Everyone,

We took Lacey, our beautiful Golden Retriever puppy to the vets today for her second puppy vaccination. After carrying her around for weeks and weeks (which I might add is no mean feat as she is now over 1 stone in weight) she will be able to walk soon :D, just a few more days :D. The vet was surprised that she was only 12 weeks old, and mentioned that she is going to end up a very big dog. While there we asked about speying. We were told that because she is going to be a big dog, it would be best to leave it until she is 9 months old. I thought it was better to get it done sooner rather than later, but I suppose she knows more than I do. We enquired about pet insurance too and was advised by her that Pet Plan was the best so we will go with that as they seem to have good cover etc. and we have got training and socialising classes arranged so I think we are all sorted out, although on command she can already sit, stay, lie down and give you either of her paws. Lacey is almost completely housetrained, and fast learner so I am sure she will be top of the class soon. I am very proud of her already. :D.

From the first time we saw Lacey (at 3 weeks of age) until now seems to have been never ending, it has just been one long wait, thank goodness the wait will soon be over, and thanks to everyone here who have helped me get this far. :D :D :D :D :D

Congratulations Debbie:D
It does seem like a never ending wait. I had Ruby vacc at 8 & 10 weeks and that was torture. Carrying her around was a nightmare as she is all legs. She is 15 weeks now and we are loving her little walks :p Thats the only thing now, although we can now walk her we can really only take her for a 10 minute walk so we don't damage any tissue/bone growth. She gets so much exercise in the garden with the kids! I am in no way wishing away her puppyhood but I cannot wait to go for long hikes with her across the fields.
Enjoy the attention you'll get aswell, suddenly people who would not speak to you in a million years will want to talk! :D
Its lovely.

Ali,
We already get the attention. Up until now we have only been able to carry her but she goes almost everywhere with us. The people that come over to see her, or stroke her, or simply tell us how lucky we are to have her is amazing. It takes us so long to go anywhere because we keep getting stopped all the time. Sometimes I think we have got a magnet in our hands not a puppy, but it is lovely and its good for Lacey to get used to lots of strangers approaching and touching her and she doesn't mind a bit. I just can't wait to take her for a little walk. I know it will be a very little walk though because she isn't keen on walking. The garden is too much for her at the moment. It doesn't matter though just to the neighbours gate and back will do me. I know she will not be small for long, and I'm enjoying every moment while I can. :D :D

Hello Debbie,
Lacey sounds fantastic! We have a 15 week old Boxer bitch, Daisy Jones. She is also an amazing little girl, we are having tons of fun.
Daisy Jones is HUGE and although she's been walking since we got her.(she is a homeopathic pup.) we end up carring her here or there so I can sympathise with you and Lacey. My 3 year old wants to hold her lead so terribly, but we can only do this in the garden or on the beach, because she's so strong.
It's fab to read about others and their puppy trials and tribulations and JOY!
Best to you and Lacey,
Megbel
p.s. my husband thinks he can just about pull anyone when he's out & about with Miss Daisy Jones, he's a sucker for the attention!!

Well it's nice to know my hubby isn't the only one who scoops the puppy up under his arm and says "come on lets go pull some birds". Problem is though, the majority of attention comes from older ladies or children. :D

Sadly we couldn't carry Kassie anywhere- she's just far too big and heavy weighing 17kg last week:( It's a good excuse to invite friend round for a cuppa though;) We also had the 2nd jab yesterday- I can't wait- I've got her well used to the lead but I bet she's not so good outside on it:)
