Hi Guys,

i am taking Deon my 12 month old rottweiler to his first training class tomorow, and i am a little bit worried, i am just wondering what sort of thing happens at these classes? i wold of gone and watched a session but tommorow is the start of a new group and there is now a 12 week waiting list!

Hi John
The dogs will learn to walk to heel nicely on the left side of the handler, to sit, down and stand on command, to stay when told to, and to come when called (a formal recall involves the dog sitting in front of the handler, and then walking around the back to sit at your side) -that is the very basics that I think pretty much all training clubs do. Those that aim for the KC Good Citizen awards (many do) will add on a few extra basics, such as the dog accepting handling, grooming, is wellbehaved when the owner meets other people and dogs etc.

Then as you progress you can learn other things, more advanced, such as doing a stay with the owner out of sight, walking to heel off the lead, retrieveing etc etc. It's GREAT fun! If your dog is new to it and already 12 months old, he'll probably take a little while to get used to it all, so don't despair if it doesn't go so well for the first 2-3 weeks. Persevere and you'll find that one day your dog suddenly understands what you want him to do, and from then on the possibilites are endless. :)

hi John
i also have rottweilers 1 of which i rescued, she had obvoiusly been in kennels a long time and was  kennel crazy she is 4 now and i started taking her to ringcraft with my others and it did her the world of good she loves it, there is nothing to worry about hun if i can get through it with her i believe anyone can,
the people at my ringcraft class are very helpful thats what they are there for to help you train your dog
best of luck to you

Maybe some money incase of a weekly fee, as well as treats, poobags and of course yourself and never forget the dog, you would look rather silly otherwise. I nearly forgot my dog last tuesday, was running late grabbing everything i needed and very nesrly ran out the door without him oopps :D
