This is SO funny. I don't read the Sun newspaper but my mother in law does, and she passed me a newspaper cutting with a competiton, to find Britain's fastest dog. Greyhounds, Whippets and Lurchers excluded. You had to time your dog's speed over 50 metres, and the 36 fastest would be invited down to London to race at Wimbledon. First prize is a grand and a year's supply of crisps, LOL. Well I timed Ripley my BSD Malinois bitch as she often wins fastest recall at companion shows, and sent in the entry. And they just called askign if she would be available to go to London on Sunday to race! Now I don't know if hubby will agree because it is a long drive (we're in Yorkshire!) but what a thing eh. :D

Go Ripley! Would be great if you could take part.

My two great lumps wouldn't even qualify if the race was downhill and they had a tailwind behind them :P

BTW... I presume that was your letter published in Dogs Today (can't think there are many Marianne's who own/breed Malinois). Thought you made a very valid and important point :)

Yes that was me in Dogs Today. :) Thanks!

Well done Marianne !  (and Ripley of course ;) )

Belgians are definitely fast - my first boy, Cosworth, could easily catch my neighbour's whippet  Fortunately he was content to leave it at "tag" :P   Although one time it outpaced him and ran home - when I finally caught up he was in my neighbour's kitchen with the Whippet looking most disconcerted LOL   Toooo funny!

You tell OH to get you all down to London and we'll be anxiously awaiting results!  Good luck, Teri :)

We're off to London!!! Oh and anyone who's around down there are allowed to go and watch, it's free. Noon on Sunday the 4th, Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium. This will be fun!! :D I think the fact that Ripley is used to championship shows, Crufts etc should be an advantage over other pet dogs that may be spooked by the crowds.I have no worries about her, she'll be fine. :)

OOh well done. I have to say that we used to do terrier racing in the any breed catagory and my Lab would out run anything for a good enough treat :D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 31.08.05 16:59 UTC
Ooh, what fun! Well done Marianne and Ripley! :D
I bet my Piglet would do pretty well at that, especially if he thinks he's chasing a real bunny!

(I like cheese-and-onion best, thanks! ;) )

Can you choose which flavour crisps you can get a years supply of? Even if you don't win, it would be a good day out.
- By Goldmali Date 31.08.05 14:26 UTC
LOL, no idea! :p
- By Dill [gb] Date 31.08.05 14:50 UTC
OH! WELL DONE Ripley and Marianne!!

Wish my old Afghan Terrier cross was still alive, he used to run rings around whippets - literally :D  Never mind, you go and enjoy yourselves, how many is a years supply of crisps? :D  :D

GOOD LUCK
Dill

Oh Marianne, that's excellent.  Ripley should do v. well at that ( I know Storm runs rings round all the rest of my dogs!). Don't forget to let us know how you both get on!

Wow Marianne, and go Ripley Mali :D

Belgians are very fast - Banya has kept up with whippets and a middle aged greyhound, and my very first Belgian I think was probably faster than that.
Banya will also stop dead beautifully, all 4 feet just so :P

I think it was Marcelle who used to take her France to racing, (unless I'm going mad  ) at the Afghan racing set up. She has also raced her Yuppy Puppy (pom), bless!

And not just fast either.  Storm can turn on a sixpence too!  It cracks me up as they all play tag in the park.  Buster my SBT tries to catch Storm (he's got the speed, but no brakes lol) and ends up flying past her way after she's turned and gone in the other direction!!

Why does the worlds fastest dog need to be found? Surely greyhounds, whippets and lurchers will always be the fastest!
- By thomas-the-spot [gb] Date 31.08.05 20:46 UTC
I think my Thomas could win that if there was a female in heat at the end of the line. :)
- By BoxerLuv [gb] Date 31.08.05 22:20 UTC
Good Luck, let us know how you get on. :)
My two wouldn't stand a chance, they would be chasing the other dogs, jumping in crowd, etc. Isn't there a comp for most chaos caused in under 5 mins, mine would so be in the running for winning that one :)
