Hello

My name is Graham from West Yorks.

Does anybody know where I might be able to purchase a breed of dog called a Golden Doodle.

I can find loads in America but I cannot find any breeders in the UK

Thank you for your help

No such breed. ;-)

Try a rescue centre :) They are crossbreeds not an actual breed.

Local dogs home, don't believe all the hype on American sites about them.  They are not good for people with allergies etc as you don't know which parent they will follow in the coat stakes!

Sorry Graham, but there is no such breed as a Goldendoodle.   It would be a rather poor cross between a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle.   The reason I say that it would be a poor cross is because no reputable breeder of either Golden Retrievers or Standard Poodles would deliberately allow such a cross. Why should they expend the money on health-testing their dogs, to ensure that they both reached breed standards, and passed hip and eye testing, to then put their dog to another of a different breed, with no breed standards?

Yes, they are bred in the US, but again, there are no breed standards for this cross, and no, the resultant puppies are not "allergy-free" as is alleged.   Admittedly, you can get some pretty puppies from such a cross - but you can also get some pretty ugly pups too!

Don't spend oodles of money on a "cute-sounding" cross - look at the Golden Retriever, then at the Standard Poodle - and then decide - or look at something like the Spanish Water Dog.

Regards

Margot

Or even the Poodle :d  The Lagotto, the Irish Water Spaniel and many more.  I am a little biaised re. Spanish Water Dogs but like many breeds they are not suitable for someone who doesn't want to do anything with them they need to go to obedience, maybe agility, go swimming, go for a run, have their brains stretched etc.

I am afraid that, as attractive as im sure they are, having recently seen a 'doodle' breeders website, i am not impressed in the slightest.

A doodle will cost you around a thousand pounds. Given most breeders on here would say it costs around £200 - £300 per pup to raise a litter (more IF there are complications, which could be expected in tiny toy breeds or bull dogs), thats £700 PROFIT per pup.

Any doodle breeder is breeding for MONEY, and when money is your main objective, other things like temperament, parents health etc start to take a backseat.

The site i saw was even offering to deliver the pup and bring mum and dad for the new owner to see!!!

Avoid, dont touch with a barge pole. There are breeds out there with similar traits, the spanish adn portugese water dogs, the irish water spaniel for starters, and when you buy one of THOSE, you know what you are getting. You arent going to end up with a golden retreivers body on a standard poodles legs, or a poodle head on a goldie, or a poodle with a goldies coat etc!

That's disgusting, a grand for a crossbreed! I paid £550 for a purebred Golden Retriever from a Champion sire (FULL Ch, not Sh Ch), both parents hip and elbow scored (hips under breed average) and eye tested AND heart tested, both with good show *and* working results, puppy tattooed, insured, came with 3 carrier bags full of stuff like brushes and combs and toys and leads, you name it, he had it! Also several kg of food. There was easily £100 worth of stuff. Show quality pup, fantastic breeder who has bent over backwards to help with anything. The printed instructions of everything from feeding to training came to over 30 pages! Now that's a caring and responsible breeder. :)

I also charged the same (£550) myself for my purebred pups of a genuinely rare BREED.
