Could someone please explain how 'Hip Scoring' works?
As im interested in getting a rottweiler dog.

Well, you have your vet x-ray the dogs hips, or if you choose to, another vet that is experienced in positioning a dog for the best quality plates. You pay the vet his/her fee and in addition a further fee for the plates to be assessed by the BVA. The BVA send you the results of the score in the post.

The score is given as two numbers i.e. 5/7 or 4/3. One number for left and the other for right. Add the two figures together and you get the combined score. The breed mean score is 13 and the median is 9. So these are the kind of scores you will hope your dog will match or beat. The lower the better. The best is 0/0=0and the worst is 53/53=106.
