Hi Guys,

I know this has been covered before but for some reason my search function doesnt want to work! :)

i am just wondering which company for pet insurance you would recommend?

its for my 12 month old rottweiler

With my Staffie which sadly is no longer with us :( i was with more than, for £9 a month i was covered for £6000 vets bills and all the usual extras but there was a excess of £75,was this a good deal?

Marks and Spencer always comes highly recommended when someone asks this question. I researched about 6 of the top name insurers and found M&S most suitable for my dogs. My Newfie costs £10.64 (I think) per month to insure and my crossbreed is £7.94 p/month with no excess on either policy.

Same here Marks and Spencer, £10.65 for my Tibetan Mastiff, with no excess, and they settled the last bill within 10 days with no questions asked.
I still have a Dogue with Sainsbury's same £10.65, but I have never claimed on this, so do not know what they are like for settling.

i have my pet insurance with sainsburys and i looked at m&s with them you can choose no excess but the benefits are slightly higher with sainsburys.

I'm with Lloyds tsb. The premiums are ok, £13.90 per month each dog (leonbergers) but its' 12 month per condition  is something I never thought about when taking it out. They have always paid up no questions asked within a couple of weeks, intersusception (sp) in February, usual things like colitis etc. and more recently gastric torsion :( which I will be claiming for this week. Only thing is with her having EPI since June I know that I only have 10 months left to claim for this and then I'm on my own :( Wish I had gone somewhere like M&S. In fact I might just change the other girl over to them soon.

I'm with Petplan and have been very happy with the service so far.
My premiums have shot up though because I have claimed so much. It was around £15 a month and now 2.5yrs later it is almost £20 a month. Having said that they have coughed up every time without question - including covering the cost of hydrotherapy. Oscar's last lot of treatment (cardiologist) cost £1006.05p  and the cheque is in the post (I hope!).

Your lucky Rachelandoscar as I have to have two dogs with Petplan as one has cancer and one has fits, so they have to stay with Petplan. I pay £59.99 a month for two!! this is with standard cover, with a £90 excess !!!!! It is rediculous! When I had a litter I told them all never to insure with Petplan. I have also found in claiming with them they take forever, I have 3 dogs with M&S at just over £10 each, with no excess and the cover is better than Petplan standard. Recently claimed £600 from M&S there were no problems atall. In my expereince M&S are the better insurer.

Great! Increased premiums and a bigger excess - just what I need!
Maybe I'll try M&S next time as I've heard lots of good things about them.

Yep another M&S users here.  One x breed at £8.69 and a WSD (classed as pedigree) at £10.49.  They did cock up in that they managed to produce four policies for us instead of two and started taking four payments out.  It was all sorted out in a couple of days and they have fully reimbursed us the extra they took out.

Havent had to claim yet but so far they have been great to deal with and the no excess option is a brilliant idea.

I have my 6yr old Dobe insured with Tesco's started off at £10.49 per month but after a £3,500 claim for cruciate ligament replacement surgery its gone upto £12.50. Never had a problem with them paying out and they can pay the vet direct (depending on your vet)

Hopefully I won't have to claim again on it :-)
