Hi Just wondering what others use to clip their dog. I have a five month old, I have just used wahl clippers for her body, and used scissors for her head. I have seen some manual shears for sale.Any input gladly taken, thanks.

first of all did you go back to the breeder to help you out how to clip the the pup,

i got two swd and yes i use clipper and a no3 or 7 blade on the body neck and legs then scissor the head as the hair on the head takes long to grow back,
i do gollie november and again in jan or feb then allow the coat to grow back for the show season,

plus have you got the only book on the market that tell all about spainsh water dogs and how to groom them it only £13 its worth get the book

I'm sorry to say but the Wahl ones will not go through your SWD's coat the next time round :d

The best in my eyes are cheaper ones Oster, but I'd rather pay that bit more and get the Aesculap ones, yep there £200 but they've worked on my Spanish now for 13 years and they were second hand.  I've never had to send them off for repair either.  Not only have I done my 5 over the years, but other peoples SWD's, other breeds and x-breeds also.

I use a 7 blade all over but I must admit sometimes I scissor the head as it takes so much longer to grow and actually doesn't grow as long as the rest of the body.

Hope your pup is doing well and register on here as there are a number of SWD owners on this site and we love to talk about them :d

Terri, don't know about the book and how to groom them as it was me doing it :d :d   But no, look behind the Americanisation of the book and it's quite good.

You could also try looking at this site www.swdclub.org (sorry cant do links) it has a detailed description of how to look after an SWD coat, how to clip, and how to look after a long coat. I agree with Diane re clippers, my Osters are Ok but I think I will save up for Aesculap, just dont tell Charlie.

Terri are you at Ardingley tomorrow ???
If so see you there with one mad Cocker and one SWD.

PS, Guest why dont you register its free, tell us more about your pup too, boy or girl and where did it come from. ?????

Good luck at the show tomorrow Jenny and Terri if you are going.

I should of been going to SKC, but Bibi, Sula and Pippa the SWD where we were due to stay have all come into season and I know that Lastar just won't be interested in showing with a no. of in season girls around!  It's a bit too far to travel in one day also, so having a break now tomorrow!

Edited to say:  How are the babies?
