From the local greyhound trainer

>The norm is to have all racing greyhounds in training muzzled in public. They are the ones who are actively being trained & they wear "yard"(plastic basket type)muzzles<

No.

I believe the NGRA has some rule that dogs in training must wear muzzles in public places. However privately owned greyhounds are not subject (in the uk, i believe southered ireland is different) to any law stating they must be muzzled in public.

I'd say that the one who snapped at your border terrier should be muzzled - sounds like it had the typical greyhound problem where it sees any small animal as prey (especially ones who have been re-homed after racing) - I know they are not all like this before anyone wants to shoot me, but I belive it is quite common :D

Greyhounds race with the muzzles on to prevent nipping eachother so i guess its just to get used to it.

One of the Greyhound rescues tells it's owners that Greys HAVE to be muzzled by law - even though they are well aware that is not the case........

In defence of Greyhounds they are3 amongst the genetlest dogs going, and the main reason for muzzling is as a safety precautiuon shoudl they take off after a small moving object as per their training.  This could be a Cat or small dog, which could be hurt or killed in the thrill of the chase.

The incident with the puppy from what I remeber the Greyhound was lying down and grumped.sniped at the puppy, not attacked it as such.  Many adult dogs are not keen on pups and witll tell them to 'buzz off' in normal canine terms., which can seem quite horrid, but the pup is never actually bitten.

My own older bitches at the moment are being quite harsh to my current litter and sending them off with a squeel when they try to get too familiar, th3eir own mother is being the same, and they are learning not to push themselves on adults unless invited.
