Has anyone had a dog which has inverted canines? What is the process for removal and when do you know when the time is right for removal.

My 5mth pup has inverted canines, Im told they may correct themselves but how long shall I let it go before I think about removal, how will I know whe they are started to become uncomfortable??

Thank you

Can you describe this?  I've just spent 30 minutes searching the web but can't find any mention of it in dogs.

Her bottom canines seem to be growing inwards underneath her top teeth, rather than having a scissor bite.

Do you mean that her bottom canines are growing into the roof of her mouth?  If so, PLEASE don't anyone talk you into using dental bands.  I know of someone who did and the band moved from in front of the incisors to under the jaw.  The circulation was cut off and the band cut into the underjaw.  Not a pretty sight! :(

I have personally seen this work where the canines were too upright and were starting to pierce the top gums, the dog is fine now :D

Let me know how you get on

Regards
Dill

Brillaint Dill, thanks.

Someone else mentioned giving a small ball to chew and play with, I'll give it a few months and see how we get on. :)

My Welsh Terrier had the same problem, the vet took them out around 4/5 months - after the course of jabs.

The new teeth grew back perfect.

The whole thing didnt bother him at all.  If he hadn't had them removed then they would have pierced the roof of his mouth - in which they were already making a indentation.
