Topic Dog Boards / Health / Disolvable stitches?

How long do they take to dissolve?
Hollie had a mastectomy 3 1/2 weeks ago and there are still no signs of the stitches dissolving yet.
She also had a wart removed from her foreleg and the stitch in that is still going strong.
How long should I leave it before I pop back to the vets to ask them to remove them!

I don't know if dog stitches are different to humans but when I had some disolvable ones, they were gone in about 2 and a half weeks.

One of my girls went it the other month for a spay, and the stitches took approximately 4 weeks to totally disappear.

I had an op on my knee in the middle of June, the internal ones disolved quite quickly but there was a 'knot' outside, this didn't dissolve at all.  On Monday I got fed up with looking at it and gave it a tug, it came away with a couple of mm's of stitch and I felt nothing!  I'd give it a few more weeks, the ones inside have probably healed nicely, just those left outside that you can see and they'll probably fall off when there is nothing holding them on the other side!
