When I was asking around about castration, the general opinion seemed to be that "it calms them down a bit". In what way does it calm them down?

I know it's a bit late for this question now, as my dog is at the vets at this minute coming round from his op, but I am hoping he will still be the playful joyous little soul he's always been.

I am not 100% sure Beany ..but I think it means that the production of testosterone , the male hormone , will stop ..he will not be so bothered about those *urges* that boy dogs seem so preoccupied with :D

Because his main aim is no longer to find a bitch to mate with , he becomes calmer.

I am sure someone will give a far more scientific explaination soon :)
