No caring reputable person will breed cross breeds. If you want a cross please go to  a rescue.Popele who breed cross such as you want do so for money without thought to health of dogs or puppies.
I would suggest if you want to pay out for a pup you decide on a breed and then find a reputable breeder who pays attention to health tests ,conformation and temperament

why should a crossbreed be any less healthy than a purebreed dog?
what about people who breed crossbreeds to better and improve dogs health such  as some of the Old Tyme bulldogs that are bred to improve the general wellbeing of the dogs? I dont think you can pigeon hole breeders like that. There are some breeders out there who crossbreed for the very reason that it improves the health of the breed in the long run !

The fact is Bulldog bash, IF this guest was able to find someone with a litter of Staff x Rottie puppies, they are extremely unlikely to have been bred with any attention to health whatsoever. The litter is likely to have been born under one of two sets of circumstances. Either an accidental mating or deliberately, by a puppy farmer.

Reputable breeders, with the breeds best interests at heart, don't produce Staff x Rottie puppies.

OTB's have the same problems with HD from what I've heard, OK so their heads etc are different but they have many of the same problems.  I think it's a load of rubbish when people say that crossbreeds are fitter, without being tested for the problems that "breeds" have they cannot say that.

I've had 3 breeds of dogs in my life of just over 30 years, Rough Collies, Pomeranian's and now Spanish Water Dogs, they've all lived well into their teens without having to go to the vet other than for their vaccinations etc.

Nobody's saying that crossbreeds are less healthy just that putting two breeds together which have health problems isn't going to make them healthier because they are now crossbreeds, they are still more than likely to have the problems that their parents breeds can have

HD in dogs such as the Dorset Olde Tyme is virtually unheard of.  American Bulldogs can come down with HD though and do have to be hipscored prior to breeding.
I am not saying that HD in Olde Tymes does not happen there is a certain strain that springs to mind but in my opinion these dogs are not fit to be called Olde Tymes,JMO

Hi Guest,

Why is it that you want that cross? What are the characteristics of the dogs that you like? Bear in mind that this is going to be 'your' first proper dog and that growing up with dogs is completely different to having your own and having to train it. In my own experience you've got two breeds there that really need some knowledge to manage properly or you could end up with problems.

If you let us know what characteristics you like in dogs and what your current circumstances are, then the forum can advise on the right breed for you. Also, be honest with yourself, do you want this cross as an 'image enhancer'? If so, then get out of that idea quickly - it will backfire on you (trust me, I see loads of cases where this has been the case).

Bear in mind that people that cross dogs have very little clue and you will very likely end up with a problem dog. If you want a cross, then you are better off rescuing one. There are LOADS of staffies (and their crosses) there that need a home. See dogpages - www.dogpages.org.uk

All the best,
Patty
